Chuckle. Publish that today and the misandrists
heads would explode. Normal women would just
laugh at it.

When I first moved to Nevada, one of the local radio
stations read an article from one of the pioneer
newspapers about how you must appreciate your wife
if she was a "quiet woman".

Yes, but in those days there were strong pressures to be 'good', not
just magazine articles. A divorced woman was a figure of scorn and
scandal.

Except in Hollywood, where she was seen as an idealised model for the

I remember a famous lady giving advice to ladies, in some women magazine

«Desde los inicios del programa las respuestas a las consultas (unas
siete en cada emisión diaria) las redactaba un equipo de guionistas,
labor que quedó asignada en exclusiva al periodista Juan Soto Viñolo

queries (about seven in each daily broadcast) were written by a team of
scriptwriters, a task that was assigned exclusively to the journalist
Juan Soto Viñolo since 1966’.)

That's a man's name, posing as Elena Francis, a woman's name.

I remember hearing her in the radio, giving answers to questions.
Everybody thought a woman was replying, but in fact, it was a man
writing the answers. Very much conservative and anti feminist. Every
body thought it was a woman giving advice.

On the contrary.

On decades later than that radio program, I heard women giving advice to
both sexes, on TV or radio, about sex issues that I have not heard a man
even try to speak up freely about. Advice that was their own this time,
not faked. And not conservative, either, but the complete reverse.
Speaking with normality of things that would make me go red in the face
and hide.

The cold beer?
That reminds me of a scene from a TV show from the seventies. A woman is
trying to get her husband to lose weight, and brings him a can of diet
beer. he sees the writing on the can "half the calories of regular beer"
and responds with "Good. I can have two.".

Even in the 1940's/ 50's (UK) it was common for
happily married, sexually active couples to sleep in twin
beds. My parents did, and so did the parents of my
friends.

I imagine the preference for separate beds had something
to do with modern couples' determination to control the
size of their family (without reliable contraception).

No silly, that's not how it works at all.

The sperms just migrate across the bedsheets in loose formation and do
their insemination thing like tiny wriggling little rapists.

Expensive and/or messy. (I had an aunt and uncle who decided it was
either that or going to the pictures - I think it was some kind of foam.)

I grew up in the wrong era...
Me too. I hven't read the Good Wife's Guide yet, but when I turned 18
or so, the girls all started wearing pants and when I was in the working
world, where older girls would have worn lipstick, they had all stopped.
I think if I'd met a few with skirts and lipstick, I'd be married now.

Clearly it's a good idea that girls be taught to read. When they grow
up, they can read cookery books (and the Kama Sutra so they are better
able to please their husbands).
Did you get the part about Women's voices should not be
heard in public? However will they be able to buy things
at the market? Point and hand gesture?
Republicans are like the American Taliban but this must be going too
far for them.

Oh and not a word of protest from Western Feminists
and the usual crowd of Misandrists.
What would the point be?

It's only *loud* voices that are banned. And who wants a *loud* woman? ;->

Hi Judith,

My wife like to tell the story of once when she was on
the phone with someone selling men's clothing asking
questions about laundering them. She tells of a halting
voice coming across the phone from a male customer
service agent saying "At lest he will be happy you wash is
cloths for him."

I remind my wife that she is a Trophy Wife. I am
blessed to have her.
