Post by Dave SmithPost by CarolYou know, the stuff IS pretty to look at and that's about
it. A pain to deal with if you have to get to work, though.
Agreed or get to the store.
We had a really bad snow, over 2ft sometime around 1998? 18-20
inches. After that the state got us more gear to cover the
beltways because we couldn't clear them.
Interrum gear was sent in from others in VA not hit and nearby
states. LOL, I wonder what outsiders thought when they saw
snowgear headed from Maryland to south VA?
People around here still talk about the blizzard of 77. We we living
in Thorold at the time and it wasn't too bad there. Well, it wasn't
bad for me because I was at home. We had about a foot of snow and
some very high winds. My wife was teaching at a country school and
got snowed in there and had to spend two nights at the home of one of
her coworkers in town.
It was much worse on the south side of the peninsula. There were
school buses buried in the now. There were trees and houses by the
lake that we buried. Buffalo and Fort Erie were really badly hit. It
had been really cold for a week or two and Lake Erie froze over. Then
when the wind and the snow started the snow was blown all the way
down to the east end and was dumped within a couple miles of the lake.
OUCH! Glad I was no where near then! Meantime, we cancelled the
Dental for Don this morning and no hassles from them. Their parking lot
gets little sun so no melt off, just ice right now.
We never got signifigant meltoff and in fact never got above 22F
yesterday. Meantime the radio news is telling us dripping the cold
water helps but when it's really bad, hot water too needs to drip.
Yup. hot water lines bursting. My next door neighbor is a plumber and
last night, his exterior house line and both hot and cold lines to his
laundry room froze.
Since no trip to dentist for us, we cancelled my normal shopping trip.
That means toast for breakfast tomorrow but I just made some lovely
light rye and that toasts nicely. I used the mortar to powderize the
caraway so it didn't mess with Don's dentures. I have some fancy jars
of preserves gifted for Christmas that will work nicely as well as a
fresh bar of cream cheese. Planning to go get eggs Saturday since the
high today is 32F (if we reach it). Windchill has been 9F to 16F
mostly.
Now looking about the freezer for something good to make a soup of. We
have tons of ham and dry beans so that may be it.
