My wife is a huge Muriel fan.

In one of her videos, she uses tonka bean, which is not legal to sell in
the USA. The internet suggested that a substitute is mahleb, something
else I'd never heard of. The next time we go to the international foods
store, we're going to look for it. Anyone else here familiar with mahleb?

I usually see it spelled as "mahlab". I've never used it.

Looks like I wouldn't like its flavor:

Its flavour is similar to a combination of bitter almond and cherry,
and similar also to marzipan.
