Dear rfc:ers,

Christmas is slowly, but surely approaching, and today the tree is done!

https://postimg.cc/Q9rLj6nt

Add to that, some fresh homemade bread, and christmas cookies and we're
almost ready to roll!

Sadly I have to do double duty, at home and at my fathers place, but since
most of my customers reside in sweden (the second most lazy country on the
planet, except norway who is first) I will have plenty of time next week
for helping my father with his christmas preparations.

The wife will then join us on the 27:th after she has celebrated with her
family.

That tree looks like it's in a pot. Will you replant
it in your yard after the holidays?? Nice looking
tree by the way.

I used to occasionally cut my own Christmas trees. Because of where I
live, they were all single-leaf piñon pines. A piñon is a very full tree
and tricky to decorate, but the smell is divine.
During certain years, they produce a terrific pine-nut harvest.

I've never had a Christmas tree yet. Would I make a bad American?

This little guy came from denmark, and has very soft needles, but doesn't
smell that much. Usually I get the ones with harder needles and that
wonderful christmas tree smell. But easier to decorate! =)

Yes, perhaps not the best tree we've had, but this was a compromise with
convenience so we had the tree delivered.

In sweden, it will be the traditional way of walking to the christmas tree
seller, and thoroughly inspect what's on offer. It will be very
interesting to see the effects on inflation! I wonder if the price will
have hit 40 EUR already?

Plastic trees for Saturnalia is entirely in keeping with the deception
that Christ was born in a manger during the season the animals are all
kept inside.

We actually have a tiny plastic tree (about 25-30 cm) on the bottom floor,
guarded by two gnomes. My wife is a christmas fanatic so the gnomes start
to pop up everywhere when december arrives.

Yes! But I suspect it is a case of the country side punishing all the city
people. ;) Jokes aside, if we were to celebrate in the country side, I
think we'd actually could just decorate a live fir tree outside. ;) The
problem there is that most of the mare way too big, so finding house sized
fir trees is quite difficult.

Nice decorations. It looks like there's some orange slices on the tree.
I like that.

We once went to a Christmas tree farm and selected a big old tree. I
was a gift from the company I worked for. It was the first and last time
that we got a really fresh living tree like that. When we got it home,
all manner of bugs started abandoning ship and dropped off the leaves.
You could see an expanding ring of critters moving away from the tree.
Maybe it was the heated room that triggered the exodus. It was the
craziest, creepiest, Christmas thing I ever seen.

My step-mom got the kids some chocolate advent calendar from IKEA. It's
a better calendar than the ones we find in supermarkets in America.
December 6th had a chocolate and a card from IKEA for some Swedish
meatballs. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me. All I have to do
is find an IKEA that's less than several thousand miles away.

We like to decorate our tree with cat.

Add to that, some fresh homemade bread, and christmas cookies and
we're almost ready to roll!
Sadly I have to do double duty, at home and at my fathers place, but since
most of my customers reside in sweden (the second most lazy country on the
planet, except norway who is first) I will have plenty of time
next week for helping my father with his christmas preparations.
The wife will then join us on the 27:th after she has celebrated with her
family.
Nice decorations. It looks like there's some orange slices on the
tree. I like that.
Yes! Never seen that myself, but my wife came up with it somewhere,
and it does look nice. It also smells nice! =)

We once went to a Christmas tree farm and selected a big old tree.
I was a gift from the company I worked for. It was the first and
last time that we got a really fresh living tree like that. When we
got it home, all manner of bugs started abandoning ship and dropped
off the leaves.
What we do is that we let the tree stand in the garage for a day or
two, to get rid of the worst of the bugs.

You could see an expanding ring of critters moving away from the
tree. Maybe it was the heated room that triggered the exodus. It
was the craziest, creepiest, Christmas thing I ever seen.
My step-mom got the kids some chocolate advent calendar from IKEA.
It's a better calendar than the ones we find in supermarkets in
America. December 6th had a chocolate and a card from IKEA for
some Swedish meatballs. That sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
All I have to do is find an IKEA that's less than several thousand
miles away.
No ikea in hawaii!? I'm surprised!

This is very cute! Excellent christmas decoration! How long does the
cat stay in the tree? ;)
Daisy-Chan was a tree climber like that. iowna (blind dog) was a free
climber too. The tree guys would laugh and specially trim all branches
up 18 inches so she get a grip with her teeth then swing her legs until
she found perchase and climb the rest of the way up.

To this day the faux beams in my living room have discrete cup hooks in
the ceiling, used to anchor the tree by fishing line at 4 points.

Why don't you just take your sanctimonious self-worship and FUCK THE
HELL OFF!

You think rescuing old pets erases the bullying and idolatrous worship
you fawn out here for the evil Dataw queen?

You're a total fraud, a willful beta female control freak who needs only
a lead bully to fall into jackboot step with.

You're by far not smart enough nor tough enough to bully on your own, oh
no...

That ditz 'act' of yours trips you flat on your fallen fucking face
every damned time!

Sasebo straight to HELL with you, foul emanation of Satan!

Oh definately! Now, many cats like to climb Christmas trees, but dogs?
Iowna came to us age 11. Sh'e'd gone blind age 9. Formerly an agility
champ in the dog competentions ring.

Never adopt a trained agility dog if you want a calm life! She didn't
just climb trees. She would regularily climb the bookshelves, knocking
the books all over the floor, until I moved the shelves to another room
she couldn't access.

Lovely. No dog for me as long as the wife keeps her taste for travelling.
If she ever allows me to settle down, I am thinking about something nice
and compact like a long haired Jack Russell or equivalent.

Careful, if she likes cats. Terriers generally do not get along with
cats. Strong prey drive as they were used for catching rats. Beagles
are a good bet to peaefully co-exist with a cat or 2.

Individual character can outway that so sure, *some terriers* do well
with cats but the odds are not on your (or the cat's) side. Beagles
tend to make friends with the cat and happily sleep with each other.

I always thought that it depended mostly on the cat's introduction to
dogs because it is usually the cats that freak out and cause problems.
He had dogs and cats together for years but the cats were outdoor cats
while the dogs were indoor pets. They problem was introducing new cats
to the dogs.
Our first dog and cat combo was a very large Bouvier des Flandres,
Fred, and a very small cat, Halibut. Fred slept indoors and Halibit
slept in a tree by the patio. When we let Fred out in the morning
Halibut would come running down to greet her and they would touch noses.
The cat was smaller than the dog's head.

It's several things and not a science. It's normally the dog that
starts it by rushing the cat while barking.

Normally? Not in my experience, which is that the dog is usually led
into the situation calmly and is interested in seeing the new creature,
but then the cat freaks out, hisses and strikes out with its claws.

I have had some surprises. I once went with a friend who was taking
his Bouvier pups to prospective buyers and brought the mother along. One
owner had a cat. It struck out at the mother and then ran up the side of
a lean to that turned out to be too steep and slippery. The cat fell
back and the dog caught it. I am surprised the cat survived.

Then there was our neighbour's son's mutt. That guy lived to kill cats.

Sadly I'm allergic to cats, so I think a dog is higher up on the list. I
could sort of tolerate a cornish rex, but doubt we'll go for two pets. But
maybe they are like drugs? Maybe we start with one and end up with 10? I
guess we'll see! ;)
