What will you be having this second day of the work week?

Here, it will be Gorton's fish sticks and potato salad.
I'm trying to finish these off and clear out my freezer
portion of my refrigerator. They'll not be invited back
even though a quick pan frying does improve them slightly.

Well adios to the Gorton's Fisherman, he can join Mrs. Paul in the
semen's retirement center...

We are having Tandoori Chicken. My wife made up the marinade last night
and is about to put in on the BBQ. It just needs to get really hot
before she put the meat on the grill. She has made a yogurt cucumber
sauce and will stir fry some snow peas to go with it. We don't have
naan to accompany it but so we will substitute pita.

Chicken soup. The roasted chicken was from Sam's Club.

raw.

That doesn't look like any chicken I've ever seen. Doesn't look like
soup, either.

It's pretty much what soup looks like at the start. The finished soup is
going to look like... well, soup. As it goes, my soups are amazing.

That bowl was made some time ago. Here's the soup we ate tonight. As
usual, there's way too much soup. I'm surprised that some posters have
no idea how soup is made.

That's a pickled jalapeno. I add that along with some vinegar from the
bottle. There were also some Korean chili pepper powder and some
Sriracha added.

I love that bowl, it's beautiful! I suppose it does look moldy - it's
supposed to look "rustic."
Our condo looks moldy. I asked the board about using some paint that
suppresses mold. That management lady laughed and said it was too
expensive. I don't care much for her attitude.

She does have a shitty attitude. I do not understand people who want to
live in bad looking houses and apartments. It's as if they do violence
to their own souls!

Maybe the .357 we discussed earlier would help her change her mind? Or a
hug? Or perhaps if you offered to pay for it out of your own pocket?

Yep! The real one would look like that. Likely added is shoyu and
perhaps worstershire sauce after the chickn was shredded. Corn and
black beans? Some canned tomato?

I love it! Has to be Lea&Perrins brown one for my tastes though they
have others.

Here's a simple odd recipe I picked up someplace. Loo'd meat. Can be
used with several types of meat but I think the original was for tough
cuts of beef like eye of round.

3 cups water
2/3 cup worchestershire
2/3 cup soy sauce
(may add spices)

Simmer meat in sauce until tender. Slice thin across the grain.
Warning, salty as you'd expect. Often used as thin cut squares on
crackers with a dibble of soft white cheese or 'butterkaiser'. May
have a little horseradish mayo. Makes a nice appetizer.

Do not use a fatty soft cut of meat as it won't come out well. The
only fish I can think of that might work is salmon. Works well with
quite a few wild game choices. I've had it with venison and wild duck.

Crockpot advised for long slow simmer. (seafood would take less).

Thank you very much! This is saved in the recipe folder! =)
It could have been Alton Brown or Jeff Smith on one of the TV cooking
shows. (Jeff Smith had a short fast stardom then disappeared under
some child related stuff).

Looks good to me!
Yep! The real one would look like that. Likely added is shoyu
and perhaps worstershire sauce after the chickn was shredded.
Corn and black beans? Some canned tomato?
Worstershire is a new love. I only had it in bloody marys but I'm
expanding the use case now!
I love it! Has to be Lea&Perrins brown one for my tastes though
they have others.
Here's a simple odd recipe I picked up someplace. Loo'd meat. Can
be used with several types of meat but I think the original was for
tough cuts of beef like eye of round.
3 cups water
2/3 cup worchestershire
2/3 cup soy sauce
(may add spices)
Simmer meat in sauce until tender. Slice thin across the grain.

I have five cookbooks written by Jeff Smith ('The Frugal Gourmet') and
refer to them frequently. That's where I got my recipe for spinach &
feta quiche, among other things. Pot roast in port. The books are
entertaining and filled with good recipes. I loved reading 'The Frugal
Gourmet Cooks American' because he wrote about foods the so-called

"In 1997, seven men filed a civil lawsuit against Smith, charging him

Six of them alleged that they were molested as teenagers in the 1970s

Smith denied the allegations, and no criminal charges were filed, but he

The litigation ended his television career..."

A woman I know was offended when a mutual friend was arrested for
possession of child porn. I said that it didn't matter if he did it or
not because people would assume he was guilty whether he did it or not.
She thought that was nonsense and that only a judge or jury could find
him guilty. The other friend there agreed with me. If a guy is accused
of that type of crime people will always assume he was guilty. As it
turned out he was found guilty.

People who are like you are innocent and people who are not like you
are guilty. Right?
Take a look at the subsidiary damage even without show trials, you
gossipy old maid:

https://www.mashed.com/1497589/jeff-smith-behind-the-scenes-the-frugal-gourmet/

The chef that the show hired in 1986 to be Smith's assistant was Craig
Wollam. Wollam joined in the show's fourth year. Once he started
collaborating with Smith, the recipes on the show were less of a
hit-or-miss affair. In addition to helping Smith with the show, Wollom
co-authored two cookbooks with him: "The Frugal Gourmet Whole Family
Cookbook" and "The Frugal Gourmet's Culinary Handbook."

While his on-screen persona was mainly lighthearted and fun-loving,
there was another side to Jeff Smith. Those who knew and worked with him
regularly saw different sides of him than the camera saw on "The Frugal
Gourmet."

Smith bossed his assistant, Chef Craig Wollam, around on screen, and
some fans have wondered how that translated off-screen. What you heard
about Smith depended on who you asked. A chef who helped him for a
single season found him friendly and easy to get along with. Another
friend who once appeared on his show found him supportive. However, if
you asked his film crew, they'd tell you he was easily irritated. Others
just found him plain condescending.

Smith admitted to sometimes letting his emotions run high. He explained
his susceptibility to being cranky by saying, "My emotions are always on
the surface, and I'm not embarrassed by that. I think it's the only way
I can prevent ulcers"

"The Frugal Gourmet" ended in 1997 after allegations that Jeff Smith had
sexually molested around 20 teen boys and young men, reports
Current.org. Most happened in the 1970s when Smith (then a Methodist
minister) employed several teen boys at a deli and catering service in
Tacoma, Washington, called The Chaplain's Pantry. Another claimed Smith
sexually abused him after picking him up as a hitchhiker in 1992.
Sources vary about whether the hitchhiker was a teen or an adult,
according to the Washington Post. Most of his accusers mentioned
alcohol, secrecy, and a grooming process at the hands of someone they
had trusted. When reporters started digging around, they found that
there had been rumors around Tacoma about Smith for years.

The first to speak out publicly was Clint Smith, who started talking to
reporters in 1993 and finally got a spot on a local radio show to accuse
Jeff Smith of pedophilia in 1995. Clint claimed that Jeff had started
paying him a settlement to keep quiet back in 1991 but stopped paying.
Everything snowballed after the radio show, with another of Smith's
alleged victims hearing the broadcast and coming forward. By 1997, there
were two separate lawsuits.

While Smith maintained his innocence, he settled with seven of the men
who sued him rather than go to trial in 1998. Smith initially wanted to
continue "The Frugal Gourmet" franchise, but he apparently never found
an underwriter willing to take him on after all the controversy.

Even though Jeff Smith's legal situation had no connection to his chef,
Craig Wollam, Wollam found himself with his own legal troubles. When
"The Frugal Gourmet" ended, Wollam found himself in court trying to
adjust his child support situation. He had originally been paying $2,000
per month to support his three-year-old son, but he petitioned to change
it to $352 per month since his income had significantly decreased
because he was laid off from the show.

Even though "The Frugal Gourmet" had well and truly ended, Wollom had
difficulty convincing the court that he wasn't voluntarily unemployed or
voluntarily underemployed. His son's mom tried to show evidence that
Wollom was still getting money from "The Frugal Gourmet" and still had
enough income to keep paying.

Things dragged on for years, with documents not being filed on time,
lost files, and incurred court fees. Wollam's lawyer was even almost
disbarred for failing to pay money to the court related to the case.

Reputation.

It happens more times than not where these kinds of allegations are
concerned.

Sadly it cost him his PBS gig, so the reward risk ratio was skewed.

instead of paying $5million, it may have cost double that and have the
details in the news every day. You can't really win in a situation like
that.

Was what he did dumb? Certainly. but was it illegal? Who really knows.
No matter how much you profess your innocence, people will judge. Just
look at Trump. People accuse him of grabbing pussy.

Yes, but they should do those things with each other, not with an old

It wasn't 'child related stuff' he was had up for paedophilia and found

No, he was sued in civil court by seven men (20 years after the fact)
and the matter was settled out of court by him and his insurors.

Exactly.

I knew a young lady who was supposedly a serial victim of sexual
molestation and rape. The last incident I knew of was a case where she
accused some guy of raping her. As it turned out, there was no rape.
There was no sex. There had been no contact at all. She made it all up.
The police were going to charge her for being a public nuisance. Local
women's groups came to her defense and claimed that charging her would
make real victims afraid to come forward. Nuts to that. I see no
connection between real victims and some idiot making false accusations
because she is pissed off at some guy. If I ran the world, any convicted
of making false allegations about a crime would be subject to the same
penalties the person would have been for the crime they had been falsely
accused of.

Follow up on that one.... About a year after that false rape report I
ran into her at store one night. It was pouring rain and she was looking

One might reasonably expect that if a rape actually happened the victim
would have wanted him charged. It is unfortunate that there are young
guys out there who will tolerate that sort of behaviour if there is some
sort of benefit to them. Later on they hear about law suits and
settlements and go looking for a big payoff. Perhaps what they really
need is some therapy to help them realize they cheap hustlers who
prostituted themselves and that they should have known better than to
tolerate the molestation at the time.

I am not sure about the meaning of "had up" but it was not pedophilia.
That is the term of molesting younger children. His alleged victims were
teens but above the limit that would make it pedophilia. The youngest of
his accusers was 14 when the incident was supposed to have happened.
There were no charges laid. Apparently it is another case of out of
court settlements working for the victims.

I remember watching his show and there was always a creepy sort of vibe
when his young assistant was on the show.

Thanks for clarifying that. I have searched and found that there were a
number of guys who sued him. One of the suits was dismissed. There were
no reports of him ever having been arrested. Since the youngest alleged
victim was 14 it is not pedophilia.

I have issues with people whining about homophobia when people suggest
gay men are predators. I had number of them making passes at me when I
was a teen. I am not saying that all gay men are predators seeking out
young boys, but there are certainly a lot of them.

You lying piece of SHIT!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Smith_(chef)

"Sexual abuse allegations
In 1997, seven men filed a civil lawsuit against Smith, charging him
with sexual abuse. Six of them alleged that they were molested as
teenagers in the 1970s while working at the Chaplain's Pantry in Tacoma;
the seventh claimed that he was assaulted in 1992, at age 14, after
Smith picked him up as a hitchhiker.Smith denied the allegations, and no
criminal charges were filed, but he and his insurers settled the cases
for an undisclosed amount in 1998. The litigation ended his television
career, though he continued his writing and charitable work."

1.) Not "paedophilia"

2.) No "found guilty".

You indescribably evil bitch!

I have five cookbooks written by Jeff Smith ('The Frugal Gourmet')
and refer to them frequently. That's where I got my recipe for
spinach & feta quiche, among other things. Pot roast in port. The
books are entertaining and filled with good recipes. I loved reading

so-called Founding Father's prepared.

What will you be having this second day of the work week?
Chicken soup. The roasted chicken was from Sam's Club.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/ZAucs6DBEMmWResx8
I hope that's not the finished product as that chicken looks
raw.
It's pretty much what soup looks like at the start. The finished
soup is going to look like... well, soup. As it goes, my soups are
amazing.

Looks good to me!
Yep! The real one would look like that. Likely added is shoyu and
perhaps worstershire sauce after the chickn was shredded. Corn and
black beans? Some canned tomato?
Worstershire is a new love. I only had it in bloody marys but I'm
expanding the use case now!
You might like the Japanese version of Worcestershire sauce - tonkatsu
sauce. It's used as a table condiment on meats. If you're eating
tonkatsu, you have to eat it with Tonkatsu sauce. The most popular
Tonkatsu sauce is Bulldog brand sauce. You can probably mix up your own
version that would be good enough.

Yes! You have excellent taste, and I do like that sauce. Sadly it does
not exist where I live (teriyaki does) so I would have to go for the

What will you be having this second day of the work week?
Here, it will be Gorton's fish sticks and potato salad.
I'm trying to finish these off and clear out my freezer
portion of my refrigerator.  They'll not be invited back
even though a quick pan frying does improve them slightly.
I actually used my cheap little air fryer last night to cook a couple of
Mrs. Paul's beer battered frozen fish fillets and packed them to take to
work to reheat for lunch. I'm not terribly impressed by either brand
(Gorton's or Mrs. Paul's) when it comes to frozen battered fish fillets
or fish sticks. I added a couple of frozen hush puppies and a few
frozen broccoli florets to the from-home container and that was lunch.

I have no idea what I'm going to have for dinner. I'm not feeling very
hungry tonight.

eggs hit the spot. :)

It's a good thing I don't consult doctors when I'm not hungry. I eat
something because the body needs fuel. And oh, I'm not obese.

The trick for me is _not_ to eat when I _do_ feel hungry. Which is about
every hour or so. Or if I get bored. Or stressed. Or see food.
Or think about food. Sometimes I feel hungry when my stomach is still
full of my most recent meal.

You know what they say about the person who microwaves fish in the break
room. Then you make it repulsive by nuking broccoli.

Went next door to my son's house for dinner. It was a celebration of
sorts.
Filet Mignon
Baked Potato
Roasted Brussles sprouts.

I brought a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Nice. A dinner like that is reason enough to celebrate.  I like filet
mignon. They are tricky too cook. IMO the ideal filet is well seared on
both sides and pink toward the centre and then raw in the middle.
I was concerned, but my DIL did well with them. More red than pink but
very tender and tasty. Sprouts were above average too.

Good stuff! I would have avoided the potato and sprouts for ethical
reasons but the rest sounds great!

The filet mignons that I buy are called beef tenderloin. They're about
three quarters of an inch thick. I smoosh them till they're as fat as
they can get, tie a string around the diameter and fry them in a smoking
hot, cast iron skillet. When deeply brown on both sides, to my
satisfaction, they're done to your specs.
If they're thicker, I chuck them in a 400F oven for four minutes.
Then again, I've never had a filet mignon that I wouldn't eat. :)
Oh...and cut the string off before serving.

I prefer to buy filets that are at closer to 2". There is a local store
that sells tenderloin steaks but they are usually too thin to cook to my
liking. By the time they well seared on the outside they are overdone in
the middle.

An overcooked tenderloin is still edible but they get dry and tasteless.
Still edible, but it's a damned shame not to have some red in it.

LOL I was telling someone just the other day about getting in trouble
with my friend's father when I fed the cattle and left a piece of baling
twine in with the hay. It never occurred to me they would be stupid
enough to eat it. Luckily he noticed it and pulled it out.

You could try that on those handicap permit scofflaws at the gym, eh?

Here it was fresh, fried pork sausage with fried sauerkraut, and a dash of
sriracha sauce on the sausage, since I didn't have anything else at home.
Very tasty and nutritious!
