Melt some butter in a small non-stick pan. Add a slice of bread from
which you've cut a small hole in the center (I use a donut cutter).
Lightly brown the bread in butter and then drop a fresh egg in the
center & season with S&P. Cook until the egg is cooked just as you
prefer. This first image is with a runny yolk but not a runny egg white:

Loading Image...

You could stop there and it would be delicious. But then I flipped it
over and cooked it a few more seconds and basically wound up with a
fried egg with a medium (not runny) in the middle of the toasty bread.

Tasty!

must give it a try sometime.

notbob mentioned this method many years ago. I haven't cooked an egg
that way in years but it's so easy to do and you get egg cooked to
whatever doneness you like & buttered toast in one fell swoop. :)

Apparently lots of people use this particular method, yes, using bacon
fat instead of butter. Maybe not every day or even every month, but it
works. It's delicious!

Every time I see a post by Widder Jill, this German term comes to mind,
lol...!!!

germanyinusa.com/2019/02/22/word-of-the-week-backpfeifengesicht

Word of the Week: Backpfeifengesicht

Backpfeifengesicht.

"Do you ever look at someone and feel like punching them in the face?
Well, Germans have a unique word for that face: a Backpfeifengesicht — a
face that’s badly in need of a fist...

This is one of those strange words that’s uniquely German with no
English equivalent. The word Backpfeife means “punch/slap” (on the
cheek/face) and Gesicht means “face”. The word Backpfeifengesicht
therefore means something along the lines of “a face that’s begging to
be slapped”...

We’re sure you know someone with a Backpfeifengesicht – someone you just
can’t get through to without a good punch or a slap. Maybe it’s your
mortal enemy. Maybe it’s someone with a stupid grin that you’d like to
wipe off that face. Maybe it’s a person who tells insulting jokes that
make others cry. Or maybe it’s someone whose face you just can’t stand,
for whatever reason. To you, that face is is need of a fist – and you’re
thinking about giving it one..."

Toad in the Hole involves sausages cooked then baked in batter, not an
egg cooked in butter on the stovetop in the center of cut out bread in
butter.

One could actually make egg in the nest quite nicely using shredded hash
brown potatoes, cooked nicely browned and crisp outside but tender
inside, and form a hole in the center to cook the egg. I'll have to
give that a try!

One egg dish I have not had in a while is shakshuka. It is slightly more
involved since you have to saute onion, garlic and bell pepper and then
add tomato and various herbs and spices to get a sort of vegetable stew,
then press some holes in the surface in which to poach eggs.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, "Toad in the Hole" popped up.
Googling toad in the hole brought up two different recipes -
Classic/English and American.

Never had the English version, which contains batter and link
sausages (I think the British call them bangers). Always had the
American version, that you describe.

You nailed the proper way to do these US style, sunny side up:

"Crack each egg and gently pour one into each hole in the sliced bread.
Place lid on frying pan and cook for about 5 minutes or until whites of
the egg are cooked through."

Jill's version was broken french toast.

But...that englie toad in pastry is interesting - I'd add ssusage gravy
to mine.

I've made "toad in the hole" a few times. The way I made it was by
whipping up a Yorkshire batter, doling it into a muffin tin for large
muffins and dropping a raw link sausage into each muffin slot. Then I
cooked the pan of muffins as I would a Yorkshire. Worked well.
I don't know if it's authentic though.

Never had the English version, which contains batter and link
sausages (I think the British call them bangers). Always had the
American version, that you describe.
Yorkshire... the Queen's doggies?
No, the Queen kept Welsh Corgis.
Oh, I thought Yorkshire terriers.

Melt some butter in a small non-stick pan. Add a slice of bread from
which you've cut a small hole in the center (I use a donut cutter).
Lightly brown the bread in butter and then drop a fresh egg in the
center & season with S&P. Cook until the egg is cooked just as you
https://i.postimg.cc/3NyHLBgR/egg-in-nest.jpg
You could stop there and it would be delicious. But then I flipped it
over and cooked it a few more seconds and basically wound up with a
fried egg with a medium (not runny) in the middle of the toasty bread.

like others i've never done it this way. i'll use a piece of
texas toast and two eggs to call it a meal.

Thick cut Texas toast and two eggs would certainly make a meal. :)

Now do it the right way;

If you like sunny side up eggs, cook the bread on one side, flip it,
then crack the egg into the hole. Cook until desired doneness. Don't
forget to cook the "hole" piece that you cut out!

Thinking further:

One could actually make "egg in the nest" quite nicely using shredded
hash brown potatoes, cooked in a skillet until nicely browned and crisp
outside but tender inside. Form a hole in the center of the hash brown
potatoes to cook the egg. I'll have to give that a try! Bacon on the
side. :)

I've made that. It sounds like a good idea but it always comes out
looking awful. You're better off with fried toast and an fried egg.

Our Unca is gonna cast his vote for THE DONALD... he just don't know it
yet...!!!

"This past week, American Thinker partnered with Rasmussen polling to
look at the battleground states, plus a few blue states in which there
seems to be a softening toward Trump as Kamala’s campaign blunders
along...

What emerged from the ten states (AZ, GA, MI, MN, NC, NM, NV, PA, VA,
and WI) was fascinating...

In the swing states, Trump and Kamala are close, although Trump seems to
be pulling ahead...

In the blue states, Trump is closer than one would expect...

Most amazingly, voters in all states, often by significant majorities,
love Trump; they just don’t know it..."

There's only a couple of things that I gots to know about a candidate.
1) Is he a rich American businessman? 2) Did she work at McDonald's?

It was rich American businessmen that overthrew the Kingdom of Hawaii.
Sooner or later, they'll end up stealing everything you got. Don't trust
them.

If you're able to work at McDonald's, it means you got some discipline
and some grit - maybe even a vision for the future. My friend in high
school worked at McDonald's. I thought that was amusing. OTOH, he was
the only guy I knew that drove a new Pontiac Firebird. All my other
friends drove old Dodge Darts and Ford Falcons.

I drove a freaking 65 Chevy Nova with bad rings. When going down the
mountain, I'd stick it in neutral to keep oil from getting sucked in the
cylinders in a futile attempt to suppress a horrible cloud of blue smoke
behind me at the bottom of the hill. When I was going up the mountain,
I'd turn the heater on full blast in an effort to keep the engine from
overheating.

My wife used to work at McDonald's and Jack-in-the-Box. The McDonald's
work environment was too harsh and strict. They tell you to clean up the
counter and you gots to hop to it. She could only handle the work
environment for 2 weeks.

Things were looser and morale was higher at JitB. The crew be laughing
and giggling the whole night. As I recall, "Cheese at the window" meant
that everybody should stop what they're doing and gawk at the good
looking guy at the drive through. As far as presidential material goes,
I suppose somebody that worked at JitB might be okay but you probably
would be safer entrusting the nuclear codes with a McDonald's man.

So open borders, replacement voters, WW3 in Ukraine and wage and price
controls can all be solved by "cheese at the window"?

The level of genocide is going to be epic if that's our best metric.

So you'd take a fry cook over an urban developer who knows how to raise
a building and a business out of the ground?

I can't imagine what could go wrong with a thin resume window like that?

Maybe just elect a professional poker player.
