it was quite the storm last night. End result, I'm ok and almost no
damage. Looks like a couple of shingles came off.

It was a bit of a journey. It make landfall about 20 miles south of us
so we would be in the eye. The breeze picked up from about 7 PM to a
very strong wind two hours later and really sounded terrible. Power
went out at 8:15, pretty much at the peak.

Shortly after, the eye passed. It was dead quiet, no wind, no light
anywhere, just dark. Rather eerie for over a half hour. Then the wind
picked up again until about 11PM and it seemed to diminish, but I could
only tell by sound.

Went to bed about 1AM and sleep well until about 5:15. I had a light on
the nightstand but chose to make it to the bathroom without it. Moved
slow and used my hands to navigate.

A little after 7AM the power came back. The freezer got up to 28
degrees, so no loss.

Not an adventure I want to repeat though.

My granddaughter has damage from a tree that came down on the trailer so
she will be here for a while.

Glad to hear you're okay, good job your granddaughter was at your place!
Re freezer, when living in typhoon land we used to put a bucket of
water in the freezer and let it freeze. If power was cut and you did
not open the freezer it could extend the freezing time by quite a bit.

Some people get a little silly when it comes to tossing meat from a
freezer after an outage. Some people put a container of water in the
freezer and then put a coin on top as an indicator of how warm it got.
If it warms up to much the water will melt and the coin will be at the
bottom and the meat products will be questionable. If the coin is still
on top it did not warm enough to thaw the meat so it should be safe.

If you are away from home that is a good indicator of what happened. If
you get right back in, stick an instant read and see what the
temperature is. Defrosted but still cold is good.

Oh, yes she it. She lived with me for quite a while when she first
moved here so it is an easy transition.

At noon, the news said out county still have 200,000 out of power. We
are fortunate that in this area wires are underground.

I've always had city water so that is nice. They have backups and stuff
to keep it going. Nice to be able to drink and flush as needed.

God Blessed you both and keep supporting the best governor in the nation
- Ron DeSantis!

He said port damage was being assessed, and that east coast ports and
the Port of Tampa seem to be OK, but the port in Manatee County damage
remains to be seen.

“Bottom line is, we got to get keep bringing fuel into this state,” he said.

He said there is still 1.5 million gallons of diesel on hand and 1.1
million pounds of gasoline that can be deployed with Florida Highway
Patrol escorting fuel tankers, something the state has already done
about 130 times, DeSantis said.

“Probably going to be OK on the east coast of Florida, some of the
places in the Tampa Bay area, when there was evacuation, everyone was
going to get gas, and some people were filling up additional tanks in
addition to what was in their car with with a gallon containers or
whatever they have, which is fine, but just the demand was went through
the roof, and so these guys ran out,” he said. “My hope is that there’s
minimal interruption with fuel on the backside of the storm.”

We live a boring existence here in Niagara. We are not prone to
earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods or droughts. We do
not get extreme heat or extreme cold. The last blizzard we had was the
famous Blizzard of 77. We didn't even get the worst of that. Buffalo
got hit a lot harder than we did.

FCC Chief Condemns Trump for Calling to Revoke CBS License over Harris
Interview Edit

The Federal Communications Commission’s chairwoman slammed former
president Donald Trump on Thursday for suggesting that CBS’s broadcast
license be revoked because the network edited Vice President Kamala
Harris’s 60 Minutes interview to make one of her answers appear more
concise and less confusing...

Trump targeted CBS in a series of Truth Social posts on Thursday
morning, declaring that the network “should lose its license” and
“should be bid out to the Highest Bidder” along with all broadcast
licenses...

The former president referenced the vice president’s long-winded answer
to 60 Minutes correspondent Bill Whitaker’s question about Israeli prime
minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rebuffing of the Biden-Harris
administration’s diplomatic pleas to prevent an all-out regional war in
the Middle East...

Trump used this to make his aforementioned point about the network’s
bias on Truth Social:

“A giant Fake News Scam by CBS & 60 Minutes. Her REAL ANSWER WAS CRAZY,
OR DUMB, so they actually REPLACED it with another answer in order to
save her or, at least, make her look better,” Trump posted...

“A FAKE NEWS SCAM, which is totally illegal. TAKE AWAY THE CBS LICENSE.
Election Interference.”

Shhh. Don't tell anybody, or they'll all want to move up here. Keep
them convinced that we're up to our necks in snow all winter, and
they'll stay away.

Just watching the news, we did incredibly well compared to other areas
up the road 40 to 80 miles. Houses destroyed, nursing home people
rescued walking through 3 feet of water.
