Post by Ed PPost by Cindy HamiltonPost by Ed PI was looking forward to a grilled cheese sandwich tonight. Well, I did
get one, but not my proudest moment.
I heated the sandwich press, assembled the sandwich, put it in and
closed the top down on it. OK, it should have been heated a bit more
but it will get done.
Then I started watching something on the news. Big mistake. After it
was done, saw steam coming from the iron and cheese melting. This is the
result one I took it out and scooped up all the melted cheese.
It was edible but I used a knife and fork to cut it up.

That actually looks pretty tasty, with the crispy edges on the cheese.
Was the cleanup horrible? I make grilled cheese in a nonstick pan,
so even an accident like this wouldn't be a big deal.
Yesterday for lunch, I had leftover pizza. The crust was a trifle
hard, so I steamed the pizza for a little while (on a rack in a
frying pan over a little water) and then stuck it in the toaster
oven to re-crisp the crust. It worked out pretty well.
What I use is a Dominion waffle iron with reversible grid, waffle one
side flat on the other. Not sure how old it is, but the inspection
sticker was signed by Ben Franklin.
i use iron skillets. even when the cheese melts into the pans, it
doesn't stick. iron is easy to maintain as long as cooking
acidic food is avoided.
Post by Ed PCleanup was not bad as it is coated so I scooped away most of the cheese
and a paper towel got the rest. I scooped and just poured it over the
top, was not going to try to get it between the bread again.
i did a dumb last thursday. had a hunk of leftover ham from new
years day. stopped and grabbed a fresh loaf of reuben rye on the
way home from work to make grilled ham and cheese sammiches. i
grabbed the hunk of ham out of the fridge and my wife said don't
eat that, it smells and tastes sketchy, it should be tossed. i
brushed her off and ate it anyway. my stomach was in knots the
next morning and i missed a day of work from fear of not being
near a toilet for the 45 minute drive there. now, no matter how
determined i am to eat the thing i really want, in the future
when my wife says it should be thrown out, i'm throwing it out. :P
