If I write more than a couple of short sentences in
a message, e.g., the reply to Dave in "What's for dinner",
the message fails to post. I then copy and paste to resend,
which takes little time, and repost whereupon the message appears.
Anyone else have this problem?

THE DONALD has joked about how CanaDUH should become the 51st state...

But would YOU want the likes of these Canuck idjits as US citizens...???

CanaDUH is a MAGA joke, it's increasingly a poor, stupid, and
inconsequential LIBTARD place...

I DO think the US should seize Alberta, though, for their vast energy
resources...

Go ahead & try. The last time, we burned your President's house,
turning it's name here permanently into "The Whitewash House", now
shortened in the USA due to impotence shame into "The Whitehouse".

In any case, a precedent has already been set by the Dakotas.
The USA let them enter as 2 states (North + South) because of
resources due to geographic area. In km squared, 382,837 for both,
thus 181,419 per state. Since Canada is 9984670, that means you
would have to allow us to join as at least 52 new states.

The BEST thing that ever happened in Canada was EXPO '67, the FAB
World's Fair held in Montreal...

We visited when I was a kid of 13, because at that time we drove all
over the country for road trips... for the Expo trip we bought a new '67
Plymouth Fury III - with AIRTEMP air conditioning...

Expo was a futuristic wonderland, all the cool pavilions - USSR, USA,
France, UK, Cuba, Czechoslovakia, all the Canadian provinces... you rode
around the grounds on a MONORAIL...!!!

At the Belgian Pavilion we lined up for Belgian WAFFLES...

The Montreal Metro was new, it was my first trip on such a transport
system...

We stayed at a tourist cabin place in Dorion, just outside of
Montreal...

The graphics for Expo '67 - " Man And His World " - are still superb and
so modern almost 60 years later...

We also visited the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, and spent two days in
Quebec City...

Canada was just so COOL then... so MODERN...

That was the best "road trip" ever... from Illinois up to Canada, and
back home through Vermont/New England...

That would mean allowing Detroit to become part of our country and I
don't think anyone would want that. The only advantage would be to our
burgeoning movie business which might use it for post apocalyptic
movies settings.

Detroit isn't what you think it is. Sure, there's still a
fair amount of crime. But there's also a lot of growth in
businesses and housing. I'd love to see more of it
rehabilitated and less outer-ring land cleared for
subdivisions.

It may be acceptable by American standards but not by Canadians. Those
who like to defend carry laws will point out that the US having a
homicide rates so much higher than Canada's are because of the extremely
high rates within a number of small areas. Detroit is one of those
places. Canada's overall homicide rate is 1.9 per 100,000. Detroit's
has dropped to 32 per 100,000..... 16 times higher. Detroit, with a
population of 633K had 203 homicides. Toronto, with a population of
2.8 million, had 75. Toronto has close to 5 times the population of
Detroit but 1/3 as many homicides. I think we would say no thanks.

Detroit's homicide rate isn't going to make Toronto's homicide rate
go up. If it were, it would already be doing it; the two cities
are not that far apart.

We watched a Canadian movie last night. We thought it was pretty good.
My wife, however, thinks the author of the story is not a good person.

how about New York State? there has to be some benefit of
totaly controlling the waterways of most of Lake Erie, Lake
Ontario, the St Lawrence River, and even the Erie Canal, right?
i'm all for it if New York City was given to New Jersey. and
Canada would then have it's first NFL team too, the only New
York NFL team, the Buffalo Bills. :)

Michario or Onchigan as a Province name? The second suggestion sounds
like a itchy skin mite, so I'd go with the first.

Don't you think the US could just buy it? First of all, the dollar will be
stronger and mightier under Trump. Second of all, Turdeau is afraid of any
energy that is not coming out of a solar cell or windmill, so he should
actually be easy to persuade to just get rid of it.

I DO think the US should seize Alberta, though, for their vast energy
resources...
I would welcome the new State of Albertana. I suggest Billings as the
capital. Then, Saskadakota with Minot as the capital.
Things are coming together as I had planned. Mwa ha ha! Mwa ha ha ha ha!
Wow. That fucking idiot Trump isn't even president yet and he is
suddenly having brain farts about absorbing Canada, Greenland and
Panama. He is bitching about Canada not paying its share of defense
costs. The fact is that the only country that has ever *tried* to invade
us is the US.

I've been saying that for a number of years, and it's frightening.

What worries me is that the idiots he's hiring for his cabinet, etc.,
might actually try it.

When Putin invaded Ukraine I said, "Hey, look. WW III has started."
I was wrong. Trump's going to do it.

Did you ever think WW3 might kick off in Panama, or
Greenland ? Nor did I until last week.

"Looking on the bright side", maybe Trump has lost
interest in Ukraine.

WW II had different start times. For western Europe it started in the
September 1939 when Britain honoured its commitment to protect Poland
from German expansion. The had been allowed to annex Austria and
Czechoslovakia but were warned that Britain would not tolerate Germany
taking any more territory. It did not start for the US until more than
2 years later when Japan launched attacks and invasions across the
Pacific, including a minor side show at Pearl Harbor. However, the
sequence of events that led up to that. Japan had allied itself with the
Axis powers in 1939 but they had already been at war for almost a
decade. They had invaded Mongolia years earlier and then invaded China.
Since the attack on Pearl Harbor and Hitler's declaration of war
expanded the war in Europe it is only fair to include Japan's previous
decade of fighting into that global conflict.

You call almost 3000 Americans killed in a surprise
attack "a minor side show"? <smh>

If I write more than a couple of short sentences in
a message, e.g., the reply to Dave in "What's for dinner",
the message fails to post. I then copy and paste to resend,
which takes little time, and repost whereupon the message appears.
Anyone else have this problem?
I've had problems off and on with Blocknews. I've also been using
eternal-september for that reason.

Since I switched to this new computer I can't seem to get Blocknews to
work even though I've got an account. I've been using ES since the switch.

I used to use ES but it would shut down for days at a time IME
so I changed to BlockNews.

I did the same a while back. Got frustraded with Blocknews and switched
back, but for the most part, both seem OK for now.

I guess it's TB and not just me. I have been having that happen more and
more often. It seems the longer it takes to write the reply the higher
the odds of it not getting through.

FWIW I try to remember to go from my draft to the In Box, hit the Get
Messages icon then go back to the draft and send.
Now I am going to go back and check for New Mail and then send.

No issues on my end, but I'm currently using Thunderbird 92.something
ESR ... Maybe it's an issue with newer Thunderbird? I also use Blocknews.

No. Have you tried restarting your computer? In case you run windows, this
seems to be the universal cure. If that doesn't help, try to use two
different news services and see if both give the same results. If so, try
to upgrade or downgrade the client. If that doesn't help, try changing to
another client. I think that would be my approach to solving the problem.

My guess is that it could be some kind of DoS attack on Usenet on this
