I've never been a fan of wooden spoons/utensils for
cooking. I just can't get into corners of bowls or
pots when using them. Lots of people wouldn't use
anything else, but give me metal or silicone utensils,
please.

That's what spurtles do. The are not rounded on the end like spoons so
you *can* get into the corners. They're a heck of a deal, but only if
one lives near a Menards, so you can get free ship to store. I have
pans that I don't use metal in, and silicone is great for some things,
but it's not rigid.

I've got a high temperature silicone spatula like in the
attached picture. It is my absolute favorite of the
different ones I own. It's rigid enough it doesn't bend
and collapse when trying to scrape something out of a bowl.
But it's not so rigid it's an annoyance and it really does
clean the inside of a bowl or pot.

I've also got one that is long and very narrow and was
marketed as a jar scraper. It is so soft it's just
useless; using it is like trying to scrape out a jar
with a feather.

I like stainless metal utensils, but no plastic or anything non-stick
for me! I have plenty of different size wooden spoons, including ones
with a corner that rounds out to scrape the corners. My favorite is a
small spatula-shaped one that scrapes the bottom perfectly in a bowl or
skillet. Silicone is nice, but I'm too afraid of it melting in hot cast
iron.

The silicone spatula I have is rated to be safe at
475-500°F. But I don't leave any cooking spoons or
spatulas in the pan when I'm cooking.

I never heard of a spurtle before. As we all know, they got everything
on the mainland!
