Watergate salad is an easy, delicious dump-and-go dessert

Curious though, where does the name of this dessert come from

Made with Cool Whip, marshmallows, pineapple, pecans, and pistachi
pudding, it's perfect for picnics, potlucks, and family gatherings

Ingredient
3.4 ounce package instant pistachio pudding mi
20 ounce can crushed pineapple not draine
2 cups mini marshmallow
1/2 cup pecans choppe
8 ounce container Cool Whip thawe

Instruction
Add the pistachio pudding, crushed pineapple, mini marshmallows, an
chopped pecans to a large bowl and combine well

Gently fold in the softened cool whip until just combined

Cover and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour or until ready t
serve

Curious, where did the Watergate Hotel come up with their recipes from?
I'm sure this dates back to something older. Or... maybe they had a
master chef who developed some dishes just for the hotel?
