Speaking of Spinach (dinner tonight)

I bought a pound of ground lamb at the meat market. I seasoned it with
S&P and have it browning in a skillet on the stove top with 2 cloves of
minced garlic. In a minute I'll add about 8 oz. of chopped spinach
(from frozen) and will let it simmer on very low heat to cook down to
reduce the liquid. Then I'll stir in about 6 oz. of crumbled feta
cheese and grate in some fresh lemon zest. This is a quick and simple
meal that is very tasty. I'll be taking some to work for lunch tomorrow.

Anything cooking at your house tonight?

I didn't buy anything special for our Sunday night and we forgot to get
something out for dinner. I was all set to go for dinner but my wife had
bought some meat pies. They are cooking now along with a baked potato
and there will be broccoli and salad.

They labelled as minced beef pies and had some peas and carrots in them.
They were pretty darned good.

It has become a lot more common around here lately. I used to see it
once every few months and only in particular stores, but now most of the
stores where regularly shop usually have it.

Not enough Muslims in your area. Looks to be somewhere between
$6 and $8 per pound at Aldi, Walmart, and Meijer. I bet the various
halal markets sell it for less, but of course their online presence
is nil.

Why "of course" nil ???? (it's the of course that
surprised me, not the availability of halal meat.

Halal markets and butchers sre online here and have been
for years. UK large supermarket chains also sell halal
meat that was stunned before slaughter (so complies with
both UK animal welfare (unconscious), and halal (still
alive).

I imagine there's more shechita than halal slaughter
in USA. Do kosher butchers have an online presence there?

No idea. There aren't enough observant Jews around here to
make a market for kosher butchers. I could google for
how many there are in the U.S., but I'm on my way out the door.

I spent my teen years in a nearby city and lived in a neighbourhood
where there were quite a few Jewish family and more than a quarter of
the students in my high school were Jews. None of them were observant.
There was kosher grocery or deli anywhere around. The only temple
around was a few miles from where most of them lived.

There aren't any markets like that near me, but there's a Halal place in
Pittsburgh that's pretty good.

I had the combo platter, which was chicken and lamb, over brown rice,
and veggies. One $11 portion easily feeds two adults, unless they are
starved.

Now that I looked, there are a couple of restaurants and a market about
20 miles from me.

If I find myself near one, I'd stop in to see what they had, never had
reason to seek one out though.

This was in the freezer case at the meat market, cryo-vac'd in
approximate 1 lb. packages.
For me, it was meatloaf and potatoes in the air fryer.  First times I
did it that way.  It was good, cant say it was any better than the oven,

My air fryer is much too small to cook meatloaf unless I'm reheating a
piece of it and the microwave works for that.
With it, I had circumcised green beans.  Honest, on the package it says
"snipped".

No, your majesty, in circumcisions, the distal end of the penis'
foreskin is snipped, not the proximal "stem" of the penis. That's a
clumsy complete castration.

Has your Highness ever enjoyed a green Dik? Maybe popeye's was green?

The one I made is 1.3 pounds. Left enough room to toss in some small
potatoes, the one a bit smaller than a golf ball. It was good, no better
than the oven. This time of year, heat from the oven can be a benefit
and it takes about an hour. The air fryer was 28 minutes and in summer
would not add heat to the house. I wanted to try it, no real advantage.

I find Birria to be the most fatty meal I will eat, but the consomme

2 things... 1. as you say, too greasy, and 2. wheat tortilla instead of
corn tortilla. A third is the bad quality of swedish tomatoes but that is
difficult to avoid in sweden, so it is the same regardless of what tacos
you eat.

But I asked them if they had corn tortillas with their regular tacos and
they, do! So I hope the regular one will be better. We'll see when the
wife comes here, that's the time for the second attempt. =)

usually cuts that back.
2 things... 1. as you say, too greasy, and 2. wheat tortilla instead of
corn tortilla. A third is the bad quality of swedish tomatoes but that
is difficult to avoid in sweden, so it is the same regardless of what
tacos you eat.
Ah yes a fried up wheat tortilla /es no bueno/, as we say.

I had no idea your tomatoes were lacking flavor, no imports from Portugal?

But I asked them if they had corn tortillas with their regular tacos and
they, do! So I hope the regular one will be better. We'll see when the
wife comes here, that's the time for the second attempt. =)

Then I'll stir in about 6 oz. of crumbled feta cheese
and grate in some fresh lemon zest. This is a quick and simple meal
that is very tasty.  I'll be taking some to work for lunch tomorrow.
Anything cooking at your house tonight?

The dream was realized! I met one of my business partners and we had
birria tacos! Sadly I was underwhelmed. It was ok, but not great. I'll
stick with my tacos al pastor in the future.
Tell us, was it perhaps too greasy for you?
I find Birria to be the most fatty meal I will eat, but the consomme
usually cuts that back.

Good question... I do not know where they are from. My trick is to use
cherry tomatoes. I find that they pack more of a punch than regular ones.
Maybe I should tell the place so they can upgrade. Most of the cherry
tomatoes come from Andalusia in spain. When you drive there, some parts of
the road, there are just miles and miles of tomato plantations with
imported africans and arabians to work the them.
