Execution is murder too. If you are against abortion you should be
against execution. Some innocent people have been killed that way.
Only a hypocrite would allow one type of killing while opposing the
other. Barbaric.

implemented...

It's a pretty dandy "deterrent"...

And besides which, it saves us taxpayers money in the long run...

The government could even *make* money by broadcasting public " pay -

Imagine the ratings...

It is not a deterrent. It is MURDER and you approve of it.
It does not save money. It has long been proven it is cheaper to keep
someone in jail for life than all the costs associated with the appeals,
legal fees and such.

If or when your daughter, sister, wife, or mother becomes pregnant from
rape, or develops a life-threatening complication of a non-viable
pregnancy, I'll bet you'll change your attitude. And, anti-abortion
laws rarely prevent abortions. In most cases, the woman either travels
to a different location where the procedure is legal or resorts to
desperate illegal measures near her home.

You are showing your profound medical ignorance. Many obese women,
especially if they have never previously been pregnant, may not realize
that they are pregnant during the first trimester of their pregnancy.
In fact, pregnancy can happen even before the young woman has had her
first menstruation. Those women, especially if they are obese, are less
likely to realize that they are pregnant than a women who knows that she
is late. In addition, maternal life-threatening complications of
pregnancy do occur in the 2nd and 3rd trimester and are commonly more
acute than those happening during the first trimester. Pregnancy
complications happen regardless of whether the pregnancy is wanted or
not or how the pregnancy happened, or how far along the pregnancy has
advanced.

Regarding your last line.

When my mother's first husband, fiance at the time, graduated medical
school, a good state medical school, in 1930, they married. They had
thought he could make a decent living as a doctor, but the depression
had just started, and he didn't. He had an office with an apartment in
the back. Had to stay home every Mermorial Day, July 4 (Did Labor Day
exist then) Christmas etc. because travelers would have traffic
accidents and some of them had money or insurance and could pay for his
services. In fact people who can afford to take a car trip are more
likely to be able to pay. (Not everyoone was poor during the Depression,
and prices were lower, great if you had some money to spend.) And the
police knew that he was there and would take or send injured, but not
critical, people to him. He was just starting to make some money wnen
the depression ended and he died of disease, at age 35.

One of his classmates, who graduated when he did, didn't seem to be
struggling like he was. He had a newish car and other stuff -- I don't
remember if my mother told me details. This was the '30's. Around
1962 or 4, we saw in the paper that he had been arrested for doing
abortions. My mother thought and I think she's right, that he'd been
doing abortions for more than 30 years. Illegal, but at least it was
a trained licensed MD. And a more and more experienced one.

Actually, the death penalty is paradoxically much more humane than life in
prison. Can you imagine being locked up for life having an anal inspection
in the shower every day and not having good food, _for the rest of your
life_?

That's europe.

In the US, a swift and clean death is an option, and if I had the choice
between life or painless execution, I would choose painless execution
instead of years of torture, any day of the week.

I have proposed for europe to "ease into it" by offering voluntary death
sentences. So let's say you get life, you can voluntarily ask to have it
converted into death.

It's your decision, so everyones hands are clean, you get to go to heaven
(maybe!) and enjoy harp lessons, tax payers are saved and everyone is
happy! =) A true win/win/win!

Those anti-choice motherfuckers aren't going to like it.
Abortion is MURDER...
Any woman who has one should be charged with First Degree murder, and
thusly and swiftly be executed...

Execution is murder too.  If you are against abortion you should be
against execution.  Some innocent people have been killed that way.
Only a hypocrite would allow one type of killing while opposing the
other.  Barbaric.
I heartily endorse the death penalty and it should be *much* more widely
implemented...
It's a pretty dandy "deterrent"...
And besides which, it saves us taxpayers money in the long run...
The government could even *make* money by broadcasting public " pay -

Imagine the ratings...

Ratings means eyeballs.
And eyeballs mean public awareness.
Your thesis is sound and very necessary in our media-driven distraction
matrix.
This is old news. There were plenty of public hangings in medeival europe
and in the wild west. I think we have perhaps forgotten a lot of good
lessons from that time.
Looking ahead, we also have the eternal classic of "running man" to guide
us!
That show was so predictive - given where TV went.
"Survivor" quickly gave way to "Naked and Afraid" and a lot worse globally...
Our survey says!

Yes, I wouldn't be surprised if that movie would actually become reality.
Wouldn't surprise me at all.

WTF Japanese Death Pit Game Show
Brilliant! No one does shows like that like the Japanese. Sociologists
will be busy for centuries tring to decode what that means in terms of the
japanese psyche. ;)

Another classic is Battle Royale. Very good book, highly recommended!

Oh yes... I will always remember when I went to one of their tempes of
consumer electronics. I was drained by all the noise and commercial
jingles in the loudspeakers after 2 hours.

I cannot imagine how an employee could stand all that noise for a workday!

Another source of fun was to just watch TV and look at those weird
TV-shows. I remember one that was about shaming people for being fat, and
having them wrestle, and no, it was not a sumo competition, it was far,
far less dingified than that.

So strange.

So odd too their obsession with pubic hair in porn and blurring it out.

But a kind and generous people by any measure.

I've always enjoyed when Japanese tourists ask for their pictures to be
taken. They're so genuinely grateful when I do and then of course its a
round of joint pics for all!

Very different from any other tourists.

Oh yes... and when taking a photo in Japan, basically every japanese
around would pause and stay out of the picture, even if it would take a
minute to take it. That would never happen in sweden, I doubt anyone
would even notice that you are taking a picture.

Great question.

I think their small island manners are consistent internally, we simply
lack the cultural familiarity to grade that very well.

35MM photography was in a true renaissance period.

You ain't kidding - the mechanical satisfaction from setting F stop,
exposure time and choosing the right ASA film was a satisfying process.

All that is mimicked in some digital cameras (the pro 35mm frame size
ones) but not so much in cellphone cameras, which are fast becoming the
new version of this old point and shoot workhorse:

And I mean who was using collapsible bellows in the 1960s for cameras?

The focus mechanism was unique too - one had to move the two gray slide
levers at the top of the case side to side to align the viewfinder
imagery which presented overlapping versions of the shot being taken.
Lined up - a focused shot.

But the side to side alignment was I believe unique to Polaroid.

have such a focusing system. They're called rangefinder cameras.

Well I am not surprised it was ginned up elsewhere.

The overlay was one side light yellow, the other light lavender -

ever!
I had a Brownie. I have a close-up of a elk hissing at me. I also have a
far more expensive Minolta with detachable telescopic lens. I haven't
looked in the Minolta case for twenty-five years.

Remember when:

Buy the camera (not cheap).
Buy the film (cheaper).
Thread the film into the camera.
Take a dozen pictures.
Take the film to have it processed.
Pick up the film and negatives later (not too expensive).
Buy more film and repeat the process.

Why aren't there more pictures of me as a baby? I have over a hundred
pictures of my four month old great-grandson. Life isn't fair!

Ever notice most pictures were made outdoors?? Christmas
might be the rare exception because those flashbulbs were
so darn expensive as was color film.

Don't forget the cost of developing. That wasn't cheap. Back in those
days you had to figure out how much film you would need for an event,
plan on reloading the camera frequently, making every shot count and
then making copies for people. These days it is almost all digital,
Make sure your battery is charged and there is lots of room on the
memory chip and then snap away and take as many photos as you want. You
can then delete 90% of them, perhaps print a few of them and then email
them to friends, family and social media.

Photography used to be a "hobby", like "Hi - Fi"...

Back in the 70's I became a photo "hobbyist", e.g. buying cameras,
taking photog courses in college, developing my own film - including
COLOR Ektachrome kodak slides... and then printing...

I still remember the smell of those photo developing chemicals...

It was all very expensive... I'd take odd jobs in order to buy a new
lens, or a nice German Rollei slide projector...

I worked a whole summer in a Heinz tomato canning plant so's I could buy
a snazzy TEAC reel - to - reel tape deck, and a pair of small Acoustic
Research speakers...

I loved to buy pre - recorded reel - to - reel tapes, classical stuff on
RCA Red Seal, Columbia Masterworks, etc... c. 1972 one of those four -
track reel tapes was about 70 or so bucks in today's money...

It was fun, but basically I don't miss those old days... audio and video
media is FAR cheaper and better today...

Jeez, in today's money I spent thousands on developing chemicals
alone...

During my first job in Reno, I met a friend who later started a printing
business. His brother did the film developing and had a darkroom within
the print shop. He ran a couple of Multilith 1250 printing presses.
I wonder how print shops run today? I bet it's a whole lot different.
For less than a hundred copies, I could do my own printing. For a ream,
I'd still prefer a print shop.

I know a guy who has a small print shop. I think the key to surviving
today is broadening your services. He does print, design, ad copy,
roll-ups, business cards etc.

The last 5 years or so, he expanded to 2 employees I think. But he's now
in his 70s so I think he will probably sell the business within 5 or 10
years. =( That will finish an era where he had 2 generations of my family
as customers.

Those were the days... my father used to do slide projector shows. He'd
have two slideprojectors and could fade between them, and then he would

Yeah, slide shows were a big deal... I had a German - made Rollei, plus
a big screen... never got as elaborate as your dad, lol...

On trips to Europe in the late 70's I'd lug around all this HEAVY camera
gear... a Minolta SRT - 101 SLR, three lenses, filters, and twenty or
thirty rolls of film... even several times I took a low - end
Polaroid... SHEESH...!!!

OH, and heavy lead - lined film bags so the film wouldn't be damaged by
airport x - ray machines...

And visiting the communist countries (CSSR, DDR...) one had to "declare"
all this stuff on a customs form...

Going through Heathrow I had my camera gear closely inspected, it was
the time of IRA terror, and potentially explosives could be put into
camera equipment...

Everything back then was so "mechanical", you had to learn to master a
camera, etc...

I far prefer today's digital stuff... but how long it will last is
anoher question...

And it's all verified, as they like to say:

https://www.wired.com/2004/02/pentagon-kills-lifelog-project/

The Pentagon canceled its so-called LifeLog project, an ambitious effort
to build a database tracking a person's entire existence.

Run by Darpa, the Defense Department's research arm, LifeLog aimed to
gather in a single place just about everything an individual says, sees
or does: the phone calls made, the TV shows watched, the magazines read,
the plane tickets bought, the e-mail sent and received. Out of this
seemingly endless ocean of information, computer scientists would plot
distinctive routes in the data, mapping relationships, memories, events
and experiences.

https://www.quora.com/Why-did-DARPA-cancel-LifeLog-on-the-same-day-Facebook-was-launched

Assistant
Bot
Aug 17

DARPA's LifeLog program was intended to create a comprehensive digital
database of an individual's life experiences, tracking various aspects
such as interactions, activities, and communications. The program was
announced in 2003 but faced significant criticism over privacy concerns
and the potential for misuse of personal data.

On February 4, 2004, the same day Facebook was launched, DARPA decided
to cancel LifeLog. The cancellation has been interpreted in various ways.

Why aren't there more pictures of me as a baby? I have over a hundred
pictures of my four month old great-grandson. Life isn't fair!
Do you really want to see a bunch of pics of yourself as a baby? Better
question, do you think your great-grandson will be interested in looking
at pictures of himself as a baby?

He would probably be more interested in seeing pics of you, his
great-grandpa and great-grandma and his grandparents.

I know when it comes to old photos (I've got a lot of them!) I can
identify my grandparents. But my great-grandparents died before I was
born. I know who they are in photos only because my parents told me who
they were. Having pics of them is nice. Imagining their lives from the
old B&W photos is intriguing.

We had one child and he was a novelty, so I took lots of photos of him
when he was a baby and then fewer and fewer as the years went by.
Meanwhile, he had a number of dogs and I took lots of photos of them. I
started when they were puppies, captured images of them as they grew and
matured. Being dogs, they had short lives and would be replace every 10
years or so, then photos were taken of the new dogs. At one point my
wife complained that we had more photos of our dogs than we did of our son.

After my father retired he spent some time purging old photos. He sorted
them and sent baby and childhood photos to me and my brothers, so I have
a number of photos of me as child. I also have a lot of his war time
photos from his time overseas. Even better than that, I have photos of
him in Denmark in 1943. There is his official ID photo taken at the
Copenhagen police station and there are photos of him posing with
members of the Danish Resistance. They were famous for photographing
their exploits.

pictures of my four month old great-grandson. Life isn't fair!
Do you really want to see a bunch of pics of yourself as a baby?  Better
question, do you think your great-grandson will be interested in looking
at pictures of himself as a baby?
He would probably be more interested in seeing pics of you, his great-
grandpa and great-grandma and his grandparents.
I know when it comes to old photos (I've got a lot of them!) I can
identify my grandparents.  But my great-grandparents died before I was
born.  I know who they are in photos only because my parents told me who
they were.  Having pics of them is nice.  Imagining their lives from the
old B&W photos is intriguing.
We had one child and he was a novelty

I don't know I don't think I've ever seen such a novelty.

I got an Instamatic outfit when I was a kid. That was the greatest gift
ever!
I had a Brownie. I have a close-up of a elk hissing at me. I also have a
far more expensive Minolta with detachable telescopic lens. I haven't
looked in the Minolta case for twenty-five years.
I used to send my exposed rolls to Seattle FilmWorks. It was cheap and
fast and the prints were kind of fuzzy. The dyes faded fast. Thanks to
smart phones, we can now save those precious moments that need saving.

Very much so! I always wonder if they are that way to each other as
well, or if it only appears to be that way from the point of view of
tourists?
Great question.
I think their small island manners are consistent internally, we
simply lack the cultural familiarity to grade that very well.
I think so. I got the feeling I could have mortally insulted them
without knowing it, and they doing their net-hating routine and me not
even noticing.

I've always enjoyed when Japanese tourists ask for their pictures to
be taken. They're so genuinely grateful when I do and then of course
its a round of joint pics for all!
Very different from any other tourists.
Oh yes... and when taking a photo in Japan, basically every japanese
around would pause and stay out of the picture, even if it would take a
minute to take it. That would never happen in sweden, I doubt anyone
would even notice that you are taking a picture.
It's such a back reference to the days when between Germany and Japan
35MM photography was in a true renaissance period.

Very beautiful! It's a shame cameras have almost vanished for the common
man.
You ain't kidding - the mechanical satisfaction from setting F stop,
exposure time and choosing the right ASA film was a satisfying process.
All that is mimicked in some digital cameras (the pro 35mm frame size
ones) but not so much in cellphone cameras, which are fast becoming the

Oh yes... I will always remember when I went to one of their tempes
of consumer electronics. I was drained by all the noise and
commercial jingles in the loudspeakers after 2 hours.
I cannot imagine how an employee could stand all that noise for a workday!

Another source of fun was to just watch TV and look at those weird
TV-shows. I remember one that was about shaming people for being fat,
and having them wrestle, and no, it was not a sumo competition, it
was far, far less dingified than that.
So strange.
So odd too their obsession with pubic hair in porn and blurring it out.
But a kind and generous people by any measure.

I used to have a Minolta SRT-101. I think a lot of people did. Before
that I used my dad's Olympus Pen half-frame camera. That was super fun.
It was a small camera that took pictures in a vertical format - just
like a modern smart phone. You could get 72 pictures out of a 36 roll of
film. Awesome!

[...] the death penalty [...]
It's a pretty dandy "deterrent"...
Not to some criminals facing 'life' in prison,
without any more drugs, freedom, &c.

Maybe to some it is, but most either do not
want to risk it, or think they are too
clever to be caught or convicted. Look at Trump.

The provincial jail in a nearby city was in hot water a few years ago
for doing body cavity searches. It was too degrading to the inmates.
They stopped doing them. Next thing you know the family of an inmate who
died of an overdose in the jail raised hell and demanded "justice"
because the jail had not been doing enough to keep drugs out of the
jail. Apparently there are guys out there who will shove a bunch of
drugs up their butts and then get themselves arrested so they will sent
to the jail where they will discharge their loaded butts and hand the
drugs over to their contacts inside.

What the heck prompts Bryan to post something like this to a cooking

If she don't, she may suffer from "Head Explode Syndrome"...
