Jimmy Carter has left the building; he died today, December
29, 2024 at home. I never thought any president could take
the mantle of worst president from him, but Biden has knocked
Jimmy out of that title.

He lived to be 100 having celebrated his 100th birthday on

Ah, I was expecting this, have not checked the news online for the last
hour or so, have been listening to Joe Rogan and Meygan Kelly
podcasts...

Unlike the VILE corrupt Vegetable Joe, Carter had some moral and
personal integrity... he simply was overwhelmed by events during his
presidency... he was also an "outsider" who was naive about how DC
works...

I never thought badly of him...

Trump is the most "VILE and corrupt" person to ever be President. In
1980, I knocked doors in very Republican areas of the county for Ed
Clark, the Libertarian candidate, but I voted for Carter. Carter didn't
merely have "some moral and personal integrity." He had more moral and
personal integrity than any President in history, and that includes
Dwight Eisenhower, Harry Truman and Abraham Lincoln.

He was indeed, "overwhelmed by events during his presidency." He was
actually quite competent, as were the three mentioned above, but there
were others who had certain failings, but yet were competent. Heck,
Nixon was competent. In close elections, those "events," that fall
outside the control of the President running for reelection, or the
party associated with that President, generally determine the outcome of
the election because voters are pretty unsophisticated.

Gerald Ford, who lost to Carter, was a decent guy, and probably
competent, but he was punished for Nixon's ethical failings, and even
for pardoning Nixon, even though the pardon was for the good of the
country, and I believe that Carter would have done it, had Ford not already.

Capitalism has a business cycle of boom and bust that we try to moderate
by depoliticizing monetary policy--in fact, I believe that the
depoliticalization of monetary policy is one of the reasons that the US
Dollar is the reserve currency for the world. Folks on the Right and
Left criticize "The Fed," and even *I*, who truly understand its role,
had issues with Greenspan because he was overly ideological. We don't
need Ayn Rand or Karl Marx in an arena where we'd be better off with
Adam Smith and John Maynard Keynes, and even Milton Friedman.>

I'm sorry for his family, they will miss him terribly and

Yet he managed to get Sadat and Begin together and responded
appropriately (as far as could be done) when the Soviets invaded

Jimmy Carter’s Farewell: Airline Deregulation, Craft Beer, And Delta
Handshakes That Shaped A Legacy

by Gary Leff on December 29, 2024

https://viewfromthewing.com/jimmy-carters-farewell-airline-deregulation-craft-beer-and-delta-handshakes-that-shaped-a-legacy/

"While he won only one term, he left a significant legislative legacy
including airline deregulation, and deregulation of railroads, trucking
and energy. He nominated Paul Volcker as Chairman of the Federal
Reserve, and it was Volcker who was most responsible for taming
inflation in the United States...

These moves set the stage for U.S. prosperity in the 1980s, though they
were aided by the bipartisan Economic Recovery Tax Act of 1981 at the
start of the Reagan administration which lowered rates and broadened the
tax base (it passed 89-11 in the Senate)...

Carter didn’t just help to give us airline deregulation, which brought
lower fares and democratized travel, but also the deregulation of
beer...

One of his later acts was the 1979 change to permit the sale of malt,
hops, and yeast to home brewers for the first time since prohibition.
That change led not just to home brewing but led to the development of
micro beweries, craft beer festivals, and a culture that supported
better beer overall...

What I will always remember President Carter for is this video of the
former President walking through economy on Delta Air Lines in 2017,
taking the time to greet everyone on board..."

This is the truth! Bryan, you will learn to love Trump in time, regardless

Slightly over half of our country agrees with you, so you don't need to
defend yourself against bryan. This is still a democratic,
representative republic, where our president relinquishes power when
voted out, and tries to aid the transition to a new chief. (I hope we
continue this old tradition).

I'm having some frozen egg rolls tonite (very late supper). They're
nothing to brag about ... Taipei brand from walmart; the pork version.
But fast and easy in the microwave. I've found them the best of the
frozen egg rolls, but again, not great at all, but pretty good emergency
grub if you have power to cook these gems up.

From the speech that President Reagan gave at the opening of the Carter
library in Atlanta. That was on October 1, 1986, when Carter turned 62;
Reagan at the time was 75 and considered, by some, antique.:

"In one of its aspects, the story of President Carter is the story of
the family in which he grew up. Jimmy Carter’s father taught him the
virtues of hard work and self-discipline. From the time he was six, he
knew that when the farm bell rang James Earl Sr. expected to see him out
of bed and going to work with everybody else...

In another of its important aspects, the story of President Carter is a
story of the South. For when Jimmy Carter was born on this date in 1924,
many southerners knew only poverty, and millions lived lives that were
separate and unequal because of the color of their skin. There’s a
photograph inside the library that sets the scene: A little boy is
drinking from a fountain. He is black. He’s drinking from that
particular fountain because on a tree next to the fountain there’s a
sign that reads: “Colored.”...

Well, the world has changed now. It has changed because men and women
like Jimmy Carter stood up in church to protest the exclusion of black
people from worship, and it has changed because Jimmy Carter spoke these
words in his inaugural address as governor of Georgia: “I say to you
quite frankly that the time for racial discrimination is over. . . . No
poor, rural, weak, or black person should ever again have to bear the
additional burden of being deprived of the opportunity for an education,
a job, or simple justice.”...

I must tell you, Mr. President, that your countrymen have vivid memories
of your time in the White House still...

They see you working in the Oval Office at your desk with an air of
intense concentration, repairing to a quiet place to receive the latest
word on the hostages you did so much to free, or studying in your
hideaway office for the meeting at Camp David that would mark such a
breakthrough for peace in the Middle East. Others will speak today, Mr.
President, of all phases of your political career and your policies...

For myself, I can pay you no higher honor than to say simply this: You
gave of yourself to this country, gracing the White House with your
passion and intellect and commitment. And now you have become a
permanent part of that grand old house, so rich in tradition, that
belongs to us all. For that, Mr. President, I thank you, and your
country thanks you...

Anything else?

There’s only one thing left to say. From the 40th president to the 39th,
happy birthday! And, Mr. President, if I could give you one word of
advice: Life begins at 70..."

I just hear that about an hour ago on the evening news. It's a shame. He
was a good and honourable man. Apparently some Americans didn't like him
as president but he had a pretty good image internationally.

Jimmy Carter has left the building; he died today, December
29, 2024 at home.  I never thought any president could take
the mantle of worst president from him, but Biden has knocked
Jimmy out of that title.
He lived to be 100 having celebrated his 100th birthday on
October 1, 2024.
Unlike some recent presidents, he was honest and honorable and did some
great work after his term.
He indirectly made Billy Beer possible too.

Joan, on the other hand, is a lousy excuse for a human being, and I hope
that she dies while this NG still exists so I can celebrate, though I
think I'd rather see her slip into unpleasant dementia, where her mind
dies slowly, like JK.

Both of you seem to enjoy celebrating people's death. I've also acted
similarly, but in a more comical way ... like black/macabre comedy.

So, you both do have that in common. Maybe a truce could be arranged?

Maybe not, but think it over.

Why Hank! Sure your surname is not 'Kissinger'?

We should have an RFC party, but the only location
that is close to anyone's physical reality is
also where we need to avoid two of those people
from meeting each other in real life.

Or we could go all in and have it at a graveyard
where they have both pre-payed to be buried
side-by-side and then we could all legally have a
pissing contest on their gravesites.

(After shaving each other's gonads, &c.)

Seriously Hank. I've been experimenting with
'refridgerator pickles'. Not cooked at all,
just small 1 or 2 one litre jars at a time.

I am still experimenting a bit. I start with
special (7% acetic acid) vinegar, 2 cups with
2 cups white sugar and 1/2 cup salt. Boil to
dissolve solids, but let cool; we do not want
to cook anything and will not attempt the
supplemental step of pasteurization for
shelf-stability. The two jars should be
consumed within a few weeks, just as when
you open a commercial product.

Most here are aware that I dislike cucumber
skins either fresh or pickled, as although
baby dills are worth the effort I found
myself hankering for the 'bread & butter'
pickle taste but without the skins.

From the web, the taste seems to be dill,
mustard, turmeric, corander seed, and
teeny tiny amounts of sweet aromatics.

For the turmeric, I suggest you use the
bottled paste; fresh tubers can be pushed
through a garlic press, but then you'll be
spending more time cleaning the kitchen
of those bright yellow spots before anyone
sees them.

For the sweet aromatics one (1) cloves,
about the same volume of allspice, cinnamon,
star anise, nutmeg NOT TOO MUCH OF EACH.

Noticeably more coriander seed. Then mustard seed,
or just either dijon or US-style mustard but remember
that US mustand is yellow due to turmeric.

PS Peeled red pepper & celery chunks at will.
Zucchini is not worth the effort. Brocolli &
cauliflower not attempted yet.

I wrap all the solid spices in little cheesecloth
bags that look like radioactive gas lantern mantles.

Indeed, this is a banner year for me. As it goes, I've lived 10 years
longer than my mom and about 22 years less than my dad. It's the first
time I've been feeling that I'm in the danger zone i.e., I could croak
at any time. My wife has been expecting that she'll die from cancer for
the last 8 years. All in all, it would be better if I went before she
does. After all, she's the heart and soul of this family. A family has
got to have heart and soul.

Anyone can go at any time. I lost two very good friends in vehicle
crashes when I was 15. An old high school friend lost her husband just
two years after they married. He died at 25. A girl I worked with at a
camp died of a stroke at 23. She was on a hike with friends and sat down
for a rest. She had suddenly had a seizure and was dead by the time the
ambulance arrived. My wife's best friend was out shopping with her
husband, told him she didn't feel good, collapsed and died. My BiL was
talking to his lady friend when he suddenly fell down dead in the middle
of a sentence. He was only 61. One uncle died of a heart attack at 49
and an aunt died of a cerebral haemmorage at 46. My father died at 77.
Their older brother died less than 6 months short of 100.

He all have best before dates and the older we get the higher the odds
are that it will be sooner rather than later, but a lot of us have
already outlived a lot of our peers. We could have more years left than
poor bitter Bryan.

'Shadow Presidency’ running White House says major DNC fundraiser

By Abhinav Sharma • December 24, 2024 4:43 PM PST

diyatvusa.com/shadow-presidency-running-white-house-says-major-dnc-fundraiser

"President Joe Biden is not fully in control of the country due to
cognitive decline, according to Democratic National Committee (DNC)
member Lindy Li, who claimed in a recent interview that a “shadow
presidency” is guiding his administration...

Speaking to NewsNation, Li, a member of the DNC’s National Finance
Committee, said, “I have my concern about the president’s mental
capacity. That 82-year-old president can’t lead, and people around him
are making those kinds of decisions on his behalf.”...

She said that the concern about Biden’s mental deterioration has been
around for a while but has been handled very carefully by those around
him. “This report just confirms what we’ve all suspected for a while,”
Li said. “There are people in the White House running things while the
president is being shielded from the realities of his own condition.”...

The Wall Street Journal recently published an in-depth report citing
Democratic lawmakers and former Biden staffers, which described a White
House that has been operating with a “diminished” Biden since early
2021. The report claimed that limits were placed on whom Biden could
speak with, as well as the type of information he received. Sources say
that the president’s advisers control the flow of communication and
manage his schedule to minimize potential missteps..."

Jimmy Carter has left the building; he died today, December
29, 2024 at home. I never thought any president could take
the mantle of worst president from him, but Trump has knocked
Jimmy out of that title.
There. Fixed it for you.
Unless you want to specify the terrible, terrible things that
Biden did.
The problem is the senile old man didn't do much of anything
unless you admire him for pretty much flinging the borders
open.
So, the border. That's it. That's what you're mad about.
The reason border crossings spiked in 2021 was from pent-up
demand from COVID. Migration increased all over the world.
This would have happened no matter who was in the White House.

Biden had legislation in place to fund increased enforcement
before Trump decided it would look bad to have that pass during
Biden's term and persuaded his acolytes in the House to oppose it.

And here's "didn't do much of anything":

Growth in GDP, jobs, and wages
Stock market recovery from COVID slump
Got legislation through (ARP, IIJA, CHIPS, IRA)
Mobilized NATO before Ukraine was invaded

Before you start screaming about inflation, let me mention that
inflation was worldwide, the U.S. had less of it than anybody,
and we managed to come out of it without a recession. The only
time prices have gone down after inflation was during the Great
Depression. We don't want to repeat those conditions.

His word salad V.P. was just as useless.
The Constitutionally mandated duties of the Vice President are:

Serve as President of the Senate
Make the official count of Electoral College votes
Stand ready to serve as president should that become necessary

Modern Vice Presidents have been assigned additional duties at
the President's discretion. In Harris's case, that was to
work with Mexico and three Central American nations to address
the root causes of migration. What, precisely, should she have
done without violating those nations' sovereignty to accomplish
that aim? She also had some other foreign policy assignments.

She does what the President tells her to do. That's her job.

This is also going on in Europe. There are too many immigrants and
people start voting for populist clowns. Of course, when these clowns
come to power, they can't solve the problem either. All they have is a

Those immigrants from America was a disaster for the Hawaiians. They
made the Hawaiians give up their gods and told them to cover their
bodies up. They brought diseases that killed off most of the Hawaiians.
They tried to wipe out the Hawaiian culture by forbidding the Hawaiian
language, practices, and dancing. The worst thing they did was overthrow
the Kingdom of Hawaii. You probably don't want Americans immigrating to
your country. Your best bet is to send them back to where they belong as
soon as they come off the boat.

P.S., the rich ones are the worst.

Why would she need to go to the southern border where millions are
coming across when she has staff providing her with the statistics.
Below is a link to US government stats. There were 20.6 million
passenger vehicles entering the US from Canada and 79.5 million from
Mexico last year. You have 215,000 pedestrians enter from Canada,
39.4million from Mexico. There was a significant increase in pedestrians
from Mexico last year especially in Brownsville where it was up more
than 50% from the previous year.

Wow. There is a sound byte the media played with. She had gone on to say
that she had worked closely with Biden on those policies. It's not like
she was in the opposition and trying to point blame her leader for
everything people didn't like. She said she had been a part of it.

She wasn't assigned to deal with crossings _at the border_. She
was assigned to work with Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and
Honduras. Three of those countries don't have a border with
the U.S. She was involved with the root causes of migration,
not with the activities of the border patrol.

What good would it have done for her to go to the border? Should
she have shouldered a weapon and shot everyone she saw coming
across the border?

Foreign policy doesn't happen in the back of a Hummer looking
for migrants. It happens in capital cities.

Jimmy Carter has left the building; he died today, December
29, 2024 at home.  I never thought any president could take
the mantle of worst president from him, but Biden has knocked
Jimmy out of that title.
He lived to be 100 having celebrated his 100th birthday on
October 1, 2024.

JC was president 43 years ago. How much anger and fear must a person
harbor in order to still feel raw about that guy? A whole lot. Your

I realize a lot of Americans don't care what foreigners think about them
and there are lots who are proud of their renegade attitudes.
Internationally Jimmy Carter has a positive image. Obama is highly
respected. Trump is just a very sad joke.

Funny how public opinion can change. A lot of Canadians thought that the
sun rose and set on Justin Trudeau. They didn't like him enough to give
him a majority government but he was still respected. His political
fortune has turned. An increasing number of Canadians have been hoping
for an election that would see the Liberal government replaced. They
wanted Trudeau out of office. Now even his own MPs are calling for him
to resign. They are in a bind. The don't want to confront him because
they need the party leader's endorsement to run in the election. They
know they don't stand a chance of being reelected with him as leader.
They can't figure out which side their bread is buttered on.

I can confirm this from 2 countries' perspective. Internationally,
people thought that the US had reached the bottom with Bush Jr., but
the Joans and the Gregs were able to go a lot lower than that.

They barely know what the Netherlands is. A Dutch journalist asked
people in the streets in an American city. One woman thought it was a
toothpaste brand :)

That was probably a bigger deal in the US than it was to us. Britain and
it other Allies, not the US, had already been at war in Europe for more
than two years. Japan at been at war in China for years and when it
attacked the US fleet at Pearl Harbor is was just a side show to their
moves across the Pacific. They attacked Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia,
the Philippines, Borneo and many others.

Thank goodness the stopped with the annual August whining over the US
nuclear attacks on Japan. The Japanese had started the war and they got
their Karma. There were about 150,000 casualties in the two bombings
together. That amounts to about half Japanese killed as the number of
Chinese civilians who had been brutalized, raped, mutilated and murdered
by the Japanese in the city of Nanking. Sorry, but I can't muster much
sympathy for the Japanese after the way they had treated people in that
war.

When Japan attacks the US, it makes sense that it's a bigger deal in
the US than in another country.

Nevertheless, throwing an atomic bomb on a city's an atrocity.

Many Europeans felt that way about the Germans for a long time, but
there comes a point where you have to move on and focus on the
present.

Is it a big deal? I doubt it. The average American doesn't really give a
shit. It was our town that was bombed but most of it is gone and
forgotten. That's only natural. You, on the other hand, are way too
excited. WTF?

The US is very divided. You're either a hero or you're the devil.
People like Joan can't see greys anymore. It's the information tunnel
they live in. They only get incendiary information from the likes of
Fox News and they get angrier and angrier.
