I don't like pickles on burgers, I like pickles with burgers,
fermented whole crisp garlic dills. People who eat those awful limp
vinegary pickle slices on burgers it's only to cover up the putrid
Those limp dick pickles are salt cured pickles. They suck. They're
soaked in a saturated salt solution for up to a year after pickle
season, then desalinated, then vinegar, water and spices added, then
cooked and bottled for the fast food places and some retail
manufacturers (like Mt. Olive Pickles, bleh!).
Always look for "Fresh Pack" pickles and pickle chips if not the
lacto-fermented ones in the fridge section (expensive). But not all
refrigerated pickles are lacto-fermented - such as Claussen.
Clausen just aren't cooked/sterilized/sealed to be shelf stable.
I've got 2 quarts/3 pounds of asparagus spears fermenting this week
($.87/lb). My farts and pee are going to smell AWESOME!
