Post every grocery store receipt you have through October. You may
edit out identifying info, but not items. We dont' care if you buy
panty liners, jock itch powder, or pregnancy tests. (Or do we?)

Since nobody even posts picture anymore, I expect NO participation
in this because you're all afraid of Bruce And Sheldon and the like,
you pussies! It shouldn't be that people are afraid to be squelched
by pipsqueaks (and that's not just here on Usenet). Just ignore them
- you don't have to justify ANYTHING to ANYBODY. Joann!

Preface your post with a brief explanation:

Random run - they all are - since I was Ubering elsewhere. Had a
coupon for $2 off pasta and sauces if I bought $8 and used that to
justify buying the overpriced egg pappardell which I've been eyeing
lately. I keep a well stocked kitchen so you'll rarely ever see much
that matches with anything else (like steaks, potatoes, mushrooms,
butter, sour cream, chives, bacon bits, broccoli, etc...)

Loading Image...

Uber drivers never open their trunks because they probably have dead
customers in them. So I keep my runs under 50# which I can fit in
the back seat with me.

Well, I went to Walmart and Aldi yesterday, too bad it's still September
or you could get a gander at those. Bruce would have a duck as I bought
two bottles of wine at Aldi. I'll go the store on Thursday, but that's still in
September so I won't have an October receipt until next week, 10/07/2021.

Wut do I have to do with this? Nothing wrong with Aldi wine.

I said "through October".

So you're now obligated to let us gander since your claimed
exclusion doesn't apply.

Go ahead and start a bit early, Joan, like I will today. I'm going today
and I might not go for another several weeks.

October has 31 days. Just start in September and count 31 days later.

I'll play along if I remember to do so. Thing is, I was planning to go
to the meat market before the end of September to buy the current $99
September "meat special" on 9/30. Other than dairy products which
include milk, cream and cheeses, and a farm stand or two for fresh
vegetables (the farm stand only takes cash and doesn't provide receipts)
I may not have much to show for October.
I figured some of you country folks might have a problem with this
but I've love to see what comes in one of those $100 "packs" of meat
in your area. Here hey offer them at Mexican markets, mostly. But
they used to do it at the mainline grocer as well.

Well, this is the Ole Timey Meats butcher shop on Lady's Island and I'm
not talking a frozen box of mixed meats. I was there a couple of weeks
ago with Evelyn, the wife of the man I work for. I was having computer
problems and she was at the office doing some Zoom calls. She mentioned
she was going to the meat market. He said, "Go with her!" So I did.
She decided to buy the monthly special. They pulled fresh meats from
the front case, wrapped them, labelled them and put them in a bag. IIRC
it's enough different types of meat for 2 people to last about a month.
Two each of bacon wrapped filets, thick cut pork chops, ground chuck,
stuffed chicken breasts, a cut up chicken... I don't remember what all.
I'll be calling tomorrow from work to order ahead so I can pick it up
on my way home. I'll be sure to write down the contents since I'm not
sure the receipt will be specific.

I just realized it won't be October if I buy this tomorrow but hey, I
have no idea what the "monthly special" will be if I wait until October.
This meat market is practically across the street from the office and
I try to do my shopping when I'll be in a particular area rather than
make special trips. Can I get an exception to the October rule? :)

As I suspected, the receipt doesn't itemize what the "monthly special"
is comprised of:

Loading Image...

This is what was included: 2 bacon wrapped beef filets (sirloin, but
that's okay), 2 boneless chicken breasts, 1 cut up chicken (I see
chicken stew in my future!), 2 NY Strip steaks, 2 thick cut pork chops,
a pound of ground round, a pound of medium shrimp, a pound of stew beef
and 2 rolled stuffed chicken breasts. For the stuffed chicken breasts I
chose the ones filled with spinach, parmesan and feta rolled in Panko
breadcrumbs. Not a bad haul for $99.95. I put the stuffed/rolled
chicken breasts in the fridge and the rest went into the freezer.

It's a very good deal considering the price of everything is going up.
I'll have to check out what is included in the October "monthly special"
although for the time being I certainly don't need to buy more meat. :)

I'll play that game. Sounds interesting.
I'm going to start it today though...Sept 29 as my daughter is on the
way and I'll be taking advantage of her driving me to the store.

Ok, here's mine for today, 9/30. Although I do shop Kroger I did not stop
in at the one that's 4 miles from my house. Down the road for a total of
9 miles is another one and they seemed to be better stocked than my
usual store. Delivery problem, manager problem, or personnel problem?

Nothing dramatic on my list but I did have a couple of digital coupons I
wanted to take advantage of plus an additional 100 points if I spent $35.
Like that's a stretch these days, ha!

Use the zoom function in the top left corner of the site is you're just dying
to pour over my receipt. Yes, I did snag two marked down packages of
90/10 angus ground beef.

Thanks for playing! :) I see the angus ground beef and the milk. :)
You also bought cat food. How is the new kitty working out? Did she
ever come out from hiding?

Wednesday, I came into the living with my coffee and sat on the couch
and ZOOM this streak flew out from under the couch. That's the first
time I've seen in her in 2½ weeks, but she cleans her food bowl a couple
of times per day of course uses the litter box.

I'm still having one-sided conversations with her several times a day, too.

I just can't figure out where she's hiding back in the sewing/craft room.
There's no dogs or other cats here to aggravate her nor any children for
her to be afraid of either.

her to be afraid of either.
Well, it's Halloween, maybe she's decided to be a "ghost cat"...

Animals are good with sensing danger and she still doesn't trust you.
It's your personality but she will eventually come around. lol
LOL

I'd like to think that Joan's more pleasant in person
With my 2 ferrets, they could immediately sense good or bad people.
One friend came for a weekend and he LOVED them. They ignored me all
weekend and spent all their time with him.
Few months later, my new son in law came for a weekend. He didn't care
for them. After the initial meeting, they ignored him. They can tell.
Yes, it's crazy how animals can tell. Dogs know that I'm not a dog
person. I sense that you don't care for the son in law a whole lot either?

Not at all. I do like my son in law. He's good people. He just didn't
care for ferrets so they ignored him.

How can it be my personality when she's not even been around me? It's
a strange place, strange person, strange smells, and she doesn't understand
why she was taken from her home.

I was teasing with that Joan. She'll come around eventually. Perhaps she
was once mistreated by someone.

I'm not sure what she's afraid of, either. Seems like a rather long
time for her to be hiding or afraid of you. Are you sure Pepper isn't a
feral?
Jill
No, she was a strictly an indoor cat. My Smitty was an indoor/outdoor
cat but he was terrified of strangers and Pema finally did warm up to my
brother after she'd been here for almost 5 years.

I'm surprised she's treating you as a "stranger" after 2-1/2 weeks.
Have you had other people coming in and out of the house?

Catnip usually helps shy cats. And of course having another cat. Cats
are very communal.

The only other person that has been in the house was my neighbor across
the alley and that was last Saturday.

Pema took 3 weeks to the day to accept this was her new home.

I'm not being critical. Cats are odd creatures. :) I guess I've just
been lucky. The two that I had were both inquisitive and affectionate
almost immediately. Heck, Persia *demanded* I let her into my apartment
and she marched in like she owned the place and slept on the bed with me
that very night.

Buffy was scared when I first brought her home, hiding on a chair under
the dining table. That's because she came from a household with two
other cats and the male Tonkinese did his best to make sure the two girl
cats couldn't get to the food, etc. By that afternoon, however, I
peeked at her on the chair, tapped my fingers and the floor and she
jumped down. She soon realized there weren't any other cats in the
house waiting to attack her and the food was all for her. She slept on
the bed with me the first night, too.

prefer to spend the night hunting... most of the night they are in the

According to you I live in a "goat barn"; no basement. :) There are no
critters in the house for cat to hunt unless you count the occasional
Palmetto bug or a brave lizard. Do you have mice in the basement?

Shortly after I adopted Buffy she started acting weird around a plastic
box that holds music CD's. I went to look at what she was fussing about
and sure enough, there was a blue tailed skink behind the CD box.
Together we tried to flank it so I could grab it and toss it outside. I
went to the left, she went to the right but it zipped right past us and
ran into the bedroom. I never did see it after that. She may have
found it during the night but she wasn't one of those cats that would
give me a "present". She didn't put it in my bed or drop it on the
floor where I would step on the remains. If she found it, she likely
ate it. It's a mystery.

She slept on the bed nearly every night. Sometimes during the night
she'd get up and I would hear her playing with her toys in the living
room and then she would curl up on the sofa and snooze until breakfast time.

My cat found two mice shortly after I adopted her, none since. I keep
getting crickets in my cellar for some reason. The cat tried to eat
one, and freaked out when it jumped inside of her mouth.. lol

doesn't look like she's moved an inch in the morning.

Doesn't surprise me, over the years I've had two cats just as
reluctant. Both females too.

Are you talking to her? If so, maybe do not and curiosity may bring
her out. Perhaps go and sit down in the room when you have put her
food out and see what happens.

Don't worry, it sometimes takes a lot of time, we are talking cats :-)

Have you heard of Feliway? It's a sold as a diffuser that by all
accounts helps calm nervous/anxious cats. Just a thought. :)

Wednesday, I came into the living with my coffee and sat on the couch
and ZOOM this streak flew out from under the couch. That's the first
time I've seen in her in 2½ weeks, but she cleans her food bowl a couple

Don't judge, this was the first shopping trip in like a month, and it's
for 2.5 people now. Literally almost every piece of junk food and
processed food was something that my ex girlfriend now roommate threw
into the buggy. Stouffers pizzas were 4 for $10.. OK those were me.

I got really sick of take out or canned food, so it was time. Maybe
I'll even organize all of the frozen meats in the cellar freezer. As is
tradition, I don't plan shopping trips, I just buy stuff that I think I
can do something with. Maybe I'll make a list or meal plan some day.

I would still buy the French Bread Pizzas if they sold that my
stores, but there's just no shelf space for them anymore. The frozen
pizza section is overflowing and the manufacturers pay huge slotting
fees that exceed their worth.

$3.79 though. Yikes! That was $1.20 more than I last saw them. More
than a Lunchable?!?!?!

OK -$1.29 ea on the pizzas and you got 13lbs of potatoes and lots of
red cabbage @ $2.lb (bot no green?). And your girdfriend...
errrr...."roomate" is $16 worth of clean.

Wait... are those canned ravioli? After you just called me shit for
eating them? Uh-oh. UH OH!

<shrug> I see a lot of ice cream and things like Twinkies and Twizzlers
and Pop Tarts, things I sure as heck wouldn't want to eat or have her
feeding to my child (if I had one). If she subsists on junk food it's
no wonder she's got health issues.

And your girdfriend...
errrr...."roomate" is $16 worth of clean.
Oh, I have no clue what those are, nor do I want to. Fortunately, I
didn't have to buy any of it this time.
It's just body wash.
{canned ravioli}
Post by Michael Trew
No no no.. those are her junk, heh
Yeah, well, don't go dissin them or those of us who eat them - even
though she paid a fortune for them. I pay $.68/can.
-sw
To be fair, they were large cans, not normal size.
To clarify, she's going to be eating extra large cans of canned ravioli?
Jill

I do the cooking here, I actually can't ever recall her cooking. She
doesn't like going into the kitchen either, because when I got a new
stove, I never hauled off the old one, to the side of the door way, and
it's a squeeze to slide in. I really didn't want to junk a nice looking
vintage stove, but I suppose it's that or shove it into the cellar to
rust or be "forgotten".

If you think this is bad, you should see the list of groceries that
Sophia's mother buys when I take her shopping. I wouldn't dare post the
receipt here, it's quite embarrassing. It's amazing how small she is,
in comparison to the fact that she literally lives on junk food.

Post every grocery store receipt you have through October.
Since nobody even posts picture anymore
(OK Sheldon..)

GIANT Eagle - Different stores. They also run the GetGo convenience
stores where Sheetz and WaWa don't normally exist.

Stan Horowitcz (the Heinz Ketchup Guy formerly of RFC) disowned me
on Facebook for favoring Sheetz over WaWa - he's a HUGE WaWa fan and
I gave him hell for it just for Sheetz and Giggles. I've never been
to either.

Rock Solid & Stolid Temple U STAN did that...!!!??? Jeez, I knew him mostly from rec.travel.air
and he was ISTR about the most "unflappable" poster I'd ever seen...and I do remember
now his Heinz fetish...

I'm totally ignorant of WaWa, but I've come across people that are "obsessed"...

That seems to be a huge thing, especially from opposing sides of PA,
Sheetz vs Wawa.. I've never been to a Wawa, but Sheetz is dangerous
(stay away from the touch screens).

That's the only Ketchup I buy. I buy it in the glass jars, then wash
them out, and sell them in my booth at the antique mall for what I pay
for full ones in the store.. I guess they look vintage.. LOL

Reminds me: I went to a flea market once, and saw a lady selling
Queen anne's lace. Those are white flowered weeds that grow on the
side of the highways almost everywhere. Usually you'll see a few
tiny bugs on them.

It's crazy the stuff that people will buy.

Women love sections of old wooden ladders. Chop them into 5-6 foot
lengths, lean them against a wall, hang a few dainty hand towels or
doilies on the rungs, and many go "nuts" over the "farmhouse vintage
rustic chic whatever the hell you call it" look. You can turn an old
junk wooden extension ladder into $35+ per section.

Chicago is too far to travel, even monthly for such an endeavor, but
I've though of opening a booth in a higher priced antique mall in
Pittsburgh, and selling some things there. Heck, I could buy stuff from
other dealers in the relatively cheap mall that I work at, and sell it
in Pittsburgh at a hefty mark-up. I love to look at the high-end malls
out there, but I NEVER buy... the prices are easily double.

Rogers (ohio) sale is 15 minutes from me. It's a massive outdoor flea
market, that's held on Fridays year round. It attracts an absolutely
massive gathering. People travel from states away to go to Rogers. I
rarely set up and sell (a lot the size of 2 cars or so costs $21 to rent
for the day), but I sometimes head out and buy things to resell. Me, I
wouldn't travel for it if I weren't close.

I typed in Rogers Ohio and Google seems to indicate that this "city"
only exists because of it's Flea Market.

Why is only open on Fridays (and 1st Saturday of the month in

Rogers sale has been held every Friday since the 1950's. I think they
are also doing the first Saturday of the month throughout the warm
months now.

As I was told, it used to be open until late into the evening... the
outdoor rows are full of street lights that are never used anymore. For
some reason, people started coming earlier and earlier. Now, the crowd
comes at 9AM, and by noon or one, they've pretty well cleared out.

If you're familiar with Trader Jack's (near Pittsburgh) at all, Rogers
is like that, but bigger.

Sounds like the Miami swap meet of the 60's. it filled the drive in
theater parking lot on weekends. Sometimes, we'd have a nickel or a
dime and wander about dreaming of getting nifty stuff. Mom gave us
money for school milk during the week and I'd save up the 6 cents plus
collect bottles for the deposit. You could net a eight cents with 4
bottles if they were the deposit types!

You could at least poke holes in the caps and sell them as vintage
salt and pepper shakers.

I used to be a Heinz loyalist but there are no many other ketchups
out there cheaper that taste exactly the same. I get 24oz plastic
bottles for under a dollar and throw them away when empty.

I've tried Hunts, and I don't like the taste. I honestly don't think
I've ever tried another brand of ketchup, aside from whatever packet the
occasional burger joint might offer.

Don't judge, this was the first shopping trip in like a month, and
it's for 2.5 people now. Literally almost every piece of junk food
and processed food was something that my ex girlfriend now roommate
threw into the buggy. Stouffers pizzas were 4 for $10.. OK those
were me.
I got really sick of take out or canned food, so it was time. Maybe
I'll even organize all of the frozen meats in the cellar freezer. As
is tradition, I don't plan shopping trips, I just buy stuff that I
think I can do something with. Maybe I'll make a list or meal plan
some day.

Gotta chuckle!

When Charlotte gets here for Xmas, mine would be similar. Bunch of
Asian noodle packs for example. Not the standard stupor market sort but
the ones where unless I load up an image, you won't know what they are.

I do some planning based on sales, but it is so I have all sorts of
choices here.

The Grocery Store Receipt challenge is through October so Christmas
doesn't even enter into the equation. No surprise about a bunch of
ramen-type noodles, though. Likely lots of rice, too.

Hopefully she's the one paying for junk food.
Fortunately, she paid for it all, with a tiny food stamp reserve that
was built up for several months. I have no clue how she got that. If
anyone wonders why I'm usually against government assistance, it's most
people that I know abuse it; far worse than what's on this receipt.
Trust me, the list would be far more lean if I were paying.

The best method I've found for the freezer is marking meats with dates
of purchase and using the FIFO - First In, First Out - method so things
don't get lost and wind up freezer burned. Shuffle things around when
you buy new stuff to add to the freezer.
Do make sure meats are well wrapped. I have an upright freezer. It isn't
large but I place the same types of things together on the shelves.
Chicken together, pork, beef, fish/seafood. Frozen vegetables go on a
different shelf. Things like cheeses (many of them freeze quite well),
cream and butter are stored on the freezer door.
Thanks, I have a large upright freezer, that very desperately needs to
be defrosted. That's certainly a this-week project. If I find freezer
burnt meat, which I'm sure I will, it will be braised to heck and back,
turned into stock, or turned into chili, etc.

I don't know about your "tradition". I have always made lists simply so
I know I'm not buying things I already have and don't need to stock up
on. Then again, along with the freezer I maintain a well stocked pantry
containing a myiad of food items. I'm not an impulse shopper but that
doesn't mean I don't stick strictly to a list or a meal plan.
"Tradition" was my sense of humor. More like, me being too lazy to make
a list. I typically know what I have, but I need to start planning
meals and buying specific things, rather than more impulse things and
throwing stuff together.
That's a lot of junk food. Twinkies and Twizzlers and sugar laden cereal.

Yeah, probably. I can't stand Twinkies, ick. I will, however, eat the
children's cereal... "it's for my daughter" <ducks>

One of the psychiatrist that works at my wife's hospital came up with the idea that Twinkies and junk foods can cause a man to go temporally insane and murder two people - one of them being the mayor of San Francisco. The weird part about this is that this "Twinkies Defense" actually worked. Amazing! Make sure you tell your daughter this cautionary tale about the evil demon Twinkies.

I don't buy them often but I do like Twinkies.
Tasty to eat plain.
In a pinch, add some strawberries for a quicky strawberry shortcake.

A little girl goes to the barber shop with her father. She stands next
to the barber chair eating her snack cake while her Dad gets his hair cut.

The barber says to her, "Sweetheart, you're going to get hair on your
Twinkee."

She says, "YES, I know. I'm gonna get boobs too."
